BP. Does South get anything for the 2 players in compensation. If it was a local player there would be a transfer fee. Irra especially is not AFL standard.

No transfer fees, no...goddy11 wrote:BP. Does South get anything for the 2 players in compensation. If it was a local player there would be a transfer fee. Irra especially is not AFL standard.
I think they will get some financial incentive for having players drafted...

i've seen Liam play footy for Shocs, Plympton & Glenelg...i like the way he takes the game on & attacks from defence & has a long kick on him
mamma carmela at the bay will be looking for someone to work as Liam has been working down there part time

It was actually Collingwood he was listed by, not Port Adelaide Power...
That was an error by me, of which I've corrected the original...

Re: INS AND OUTS - 2017
Clubs do actually get extra for players drafted, over and above the $50K a year all clubs get.
There is a 'top-up' payment depending on the numbers drafted from each club.

Different depending on how many players drafted from each club.

It's calculated by a complex formula and I have no idea how that works.
As a guess, allied to some limited knowledge, it could be between $5,000 and $50,000.

Very good signing by the Dogs.
Why Colquhoun to Sturt, BP?
At least you'll get $25K.

From what I am lead to believe, it was pretty much $ related...
But also about what needs the club had for specific player types...

Money certainly played a major part in it, waddyamean...
The other speculative points are a matter of opinion...

Re: INS AND OUTS - 2017
My understanding is 50k a ckub a year
There is a pool of money for drafted players from afl to sanfl which is deoendent on x amount if players drafted at National draft not rookie.
Then a percentage of the pool is dished out depending on the percentage of players taken from the 8 clubs
Eg 10 players and your club lose 2 then 20 percent of remaining pool goes to your club.
If a rookie is upgraded in the nationsl draft it counts otherwise bugger all.
Happy to be corrected on my understanding

Re: INS AND OUTS - 2017
As far as the sanfl is concerned, the AFL rookie draft in particular, is just a form of ethnic cleansing to keep 2 sanfl clubs competitive. You could even call it a selective rort.
Choose local lads to give them a sniff. Maybe they might get games, most not.
How many rookies does each AFL club de-list on average at season's end each year?
I think the afl rookie draft needs to go. Just pick your players out of the draft and be done with it. That you can put veterans on a rookie list is just plain ridiculous.
I agree, the whole set up is that lopsided, having a salary cap at all makes equity and fairness meaningless. Financially, yes there is a reason and justification for it. But on competitive terms, no.
