Spelly,
It looks like West will fail to play finals this year. How many times has a club that wins the premiership, failed to play finals in the next three seasons? Thankyou.

Had a feeling West were close to this after the legendary 1983 side - still one of the best teams I've ever seen in nearly 45 years of watching SANFL - and checked.
Missed the finals 1984; 3rd in 1985; missed every year from 1986 to 1990 until the 1991 GF.
Quite remarkable, given the strength of that 1983 side (I had the fortune of having Larry Watson as a coach when I played in the country - a lovely, thoughtful and quiet man). Would be interested to hear from Bloods fans as to why that may have happened.

That's a helluva premiership hangover for the Bays.

It is probably not widely regarded due to the strength of West's side that year, but I always felt in my 45 years of watching that the 83 Sturt side was just about the best one I saw in terms of overall team balance, pace and skill.
I was too young to fully appreciate the sides of 66-70, and whilst the 78 side was all dominating (except for the last 30 minutes of the season), I reckon the 83 team was better.
In my book that 83 West side then goes up a notch in how they went about defeating the Blues.
So I concur with your assessment CK.

Heres some questions from a 3rd party
Heres what he sent :
PA last win was a 7 point win v ST at Alberton, since then they have lost 5 in a row, including 3 at Alberton
Question 1 : Have they ever lost 5 in a row in the SANFL , if so what is the record ?
Question 2 : Theyve lost their last 3 at Alberton, has this happened before and if so whats the record ?
Heres a question of my own
28/7/2018
PA 6-7
SA 17-15
Is that 74 point win the BIGgest by SA V PA at Alberton ?
Which team has the highest winning margin at Alberton ?

Re: SPELL-CHECK'S SANFL STATS. Random facts: Questions answered:
Questions regarding Port come with disclaimers - to cater for everyone; pre 2014 and from then on are listed here:
1) 11 losses in a row is the record (Rd 16 2009 to Rd 5 2010), in one season it's those last 7 matches of 2009 and Rds 4-10 2002
Post 2013 is the first time
2) 7 in a row from Rd 14 2011 to Rd 5 2012
Losing 3 in a row since then is the first time
Yes, previously was 41pts (19.8 to 10.21), Rd 13 1939
It's the first time that South has won at Alberton since Rd 14 2011
Sturt won by 86 points in Rd 14 1973 (24.11 to 9.15)
North won by 78 points Rd 8 this year

Hello Spelly
Can you please advise which current player has played the most matches without polling a Magarey vote and where possible, who had played the most career games without polling.
Thanks

I actually missed getting the votes when they were on the SANFL website; now they are not there anymore. I also don't have the recording of it from last year, so if you (or someone else) can provide them for me, I can work it out.

Spelly, Steve Summerton retires this year having played in 200+ games for Port but never in a premiership. Wouldn't have thought many Port players would have done that. Can you tell us how many?

Re: SPELL-CHECK'S SANFL STATS. Random facts: Questions answered:
Further to the Steve Summerton question, Leigh Ryswyk has retired from North as a 200 game player. Is he the first North player to play 200 games for the club and not play in a premiership?
Also, and this certainly isn't meant as a cheap shot, but is Port's record of 4 1/2 wins the worst by a Port Adelaide side since the 1800s?
And finally I read elsewhere that South last beat North in a final in 1903? Is this correct (and if so I suspect that this very long drought will be broken next weekend)?

No, Brenton Phillips and Scott Bamford did not play in a premiership either.
Port had 4 wins in each of 2009 and 2010; then you have to go back to 1948 for another 4 win season.
Yes; the record is 8-1 in finals meetings.

Thanks. I didn't realise that Phillips and Bamford played that many games for North given that they both spent a number of years in the VFL/AFL

Re: SPELL-CHECK'S SANFL STATS. Random facts: Questions answered:
Interested to know whether the average winning score and average losing score has altered much season by season over the last say, 10 years.
Given the much stronger focus on defensive structures, I wonder how much (if at all) this has impacted on scoring.

South still haven't beaten North in a final since 1903. Do they (or any other tradional club) have a similar drought in finals?

The only match up of the 5 1897 clubs still going in 2018 to have an unbeaten record is West over South (2-0)
