Re: SANFL HISTORY QUESTIONS ANSWERED by 'WOLVES'
To start, wolves, can you tell me the name of the West full-forward, in the 1930's, I think, who kicked a heap of goals over a few seasons.
I think he was suspended and didn't play again?

Re: SANFL HISTORY QUESTIONS ANSWERED by 'WOLVES'
I think you are after E.J "Dickie" Bennetts (Full name Edgar James Knight Bennetts)
Father of .. BENNETTS, Jeffrey -
Grandfather of .. BENNETTS, Craig Matthew
Cousin of.. BENNETTS, Lionel Gordon
Career:
WAFC - 1927-29, 33-35, 102 games 436 Goals
1 State game 3 Goals in 1928
Australian Club Champions game v Collingwood 1927 1 Game
Controvesially Disqualified 4 years for allegedly tripping an umpire. (Not like David Clarke - Believed Bennett was very unlucky and maybe targetted)

The Passing of West Adelaide's 1947 Premiership Player Garth Burkett.
Gar died August 03. His son John also played with Westies.

I remember older Bloods fans talking very flatteringly about Gar Burkett. John Burkett was also a very talented wingman, and a very accurate drop kick.

I always thought that John Burkett was Gar Burkett's nephew.

Re: SANFL HISTORY QUESTIONS ANSWERED by 'WOLVES'
Hi Wolves, thanks for that.
I'd say I'm right with that being "Shine" Hosking, yes? He was a stand out for the Magpies I believe, his career stats if I could?
I know he won a MM and was one of the dirtiest players of the era. A departed Great Aunt of mine told me of her Father watching Sampson belt blokes one after the other "like he was knocking tops off bottles".....
Love a good Port hard man story.

Re: SANFL HISTORY QUESTIONS ANSWERED by 'WOLVES'
Hi Coza
I have an imperfect list which I am referring to for the moment
Currently I have inputted Game X Game 1897-1912 and 1991-2015 for all clubs which also included honour boards, life members Qtr X Qtr and all umpires involved. (Norwood, North, WWT & WAFC are complete 1897-2015).
I have removed all F/Cup, Esc. Cup, Foxtel Cup Games from totals.....
Using my very old records which do have errors, I have the following list for Goal Kickers SAFC (Which include Cup games unfortunately)...
HIGHEST GOALS (Games first then goals)
STOECKEL David L 1985-1997 South Adelaide 267 394
MUNRO Christopher C 1932-1937 South Adelaide 69 380
LAPTHORNE Lenton E 1937-1941 & 1945-1952 South Adelaide 193 362
SCHNEEBICHLER John 1975-1987 South Adelaide 234 351
BACKMAN Lindsay R 1961-1972 South Adelaide 203 347
WARREN, Benjamin D 163 games 345 Goals SAFC 2001-2010 (All accounted for and do not include Cup Games)
RYAN Alfred J "Bulla" 1922-1931 South Adelaide 146 327
RUSBY Lawrence F. E 1934-1941 South Adelaide 139 277
MURDY Maxwell A 1932-1941 South Adelaide 147 275
LINKE Geoffrey K 1975-1981 South Adelaide 110 268
McINTYRE Peter R 1988-1996 South Adelaide 133 252

Re: SANFL HISTORY QUESTIONS ANSWERED by 'WOLVES'
Thanks mark for your help. Not sure if you remember me but about 10 years ago now you had a web sight that had all players careers from all clubs you gave me access to. I was doing stats on centrals and helped Robert laidlaw with his 30 year book on centrals I'm Cory shilling. Do you still have that web site or page going these days. Well thanks for your help mate

Re: SANFL HISTORY QUESTIONS ANSWERED by 'WOLVES'
I had forgot I also did do some research on some players who kicked at least 200 goals on the Trove newspaper website (so, prior to 1955 anyway)
This is what I have got for 5 of those ten, without those cup matches:
Munro: 65 games 380 goals
Lapthorne: 194 games 363 goals
Stoeckel: 230 games 349 goals 232 behinds
Warren: 163 games 340 goals 163 behinds
Ryan: 146 games 329 goals
Schneebichler had 102 games and 181 goals from 1983 to 1987

Re: SANFL HISTORY QUESTIONS ANSWERED by 'WOLVES'
Hi Cory
That was a long time ago... i havent run a web page for a very long time.
I have an access data base which needs serious upgrading but this is beyond my skill set. Fortunately it still works for most aspects of what i need.
Do you still attend sanfl games?
Perhaps we can catch up at a west adelaide match later this year
Regards
Mark

Yes mate I still go to matches only missed 12 since 1982 and still keep my stats up to date with centrals. I love the history of the game and have lots of books on all the clubs but trying to find out more about South adelaide. I'm trying to find out about South great chf Don Pryor and players before 1975
