How long for a 1385m race - 1.5 mins??
295m dog race is about 19 seconds
900m horse race would be 50seconds

I think Scrappy is onto something

More of these races.
Better for turnover, races over quicker so your cash isnt invested in a boring long 3 minute race...so the all clear will be quicker
Better sky channel coverage. More races covered for more meetings.

not a fan of the 1385 metre races myself  & wont be having a bet tomorrow night, i'll just socialize  & chat with all the guys etc.....if they had two 1385 metre races one week & a final the next then i'd think that'd be ideal (they do a similar thing to this in Victoria)....i know for a fact when this was mooted a few months ago a couple of the professionals said they'll be having a night off if it happens........

now what about this article on this young 8 year old girl Jorja Glynn...she must be an exceptional young lady......

http://www.harness.org.au/media-room/news-article/?news_id=35699

Jorja's Christmas Gift
08 December 2017 | Paul Courts

AT A time of the year when most kids her age are wondering what presents they will receive in the coming weeks, Jorja Glynn is focused on what she can give.

Having heard about a certain program for cancer patients, the remarkable South Australia youngster has decided to make a donation.

What makes Glynn’s effort even more amazing is the eight-year-old will be cutting off her beautiful golden tresses.

Glynn will then donate her hair to Angel Wigs, which specialises in wigs for those suffering hair loss as a result of their treatment.

“I’m not 100 per cent sure what prompted her, whether she saw it in the paper or it was something talked about here at home, but she decided she wants to do it,” proud mum Jodie said.

“She has always been a caring little girl and wants to cut her hair to give to a child who has lost their hair because of cancer.

“Jorja never met her grandmother, Helen, who died of cancer, but knows all about it and her.

“Our property is called Samara Stables, with the Samara moniker used in our horses as the last horse Helen owned was Samara Boy.”

Helen is the mother of Jorja’s father, Mount Schank-based reinsman, Jason.

Glynn will be ‘clipped’ during tonight’s Mount Gambier meeting, with the club also donating money to the cause.

Hoping to raise $500 as part of her contribution, Jorja’s tally is edging closer to $1000!

“She has already passed her target of $500, which is quite a lot for a little girl, and is closing in on $1000,” Jodie said.

“I’m such a proud mum, and being close to Jason’s heart, he is very proud of his daughter.”

Don’t know, I’ll check it out tomorrow after work, I have a feeling it might be ok as Scrappy was backing winner after winner

This week the first race is at 5.27 pm....while I know this is a sky channel directive for every meeting, a similar starting time every week would help most people, one of the girls that work on Saturday nights also works a full time job including Saturdays & she can’t be in two places at once

Sorry I forgot to look up the turnover, will do later.......tomorrows meeting has been transferred to a night meeting because of the heat, one official told me last night “if changed it’ll be Tuesday night” today at the trials they said “tomorrow night”. So all I’ll say it’s now a night meeting

we went to the Victor Harbor trots today (don't tell the boss) & the on course bookies had a place market on the 4 horse race, when i queried one of the bookies, he told me that the rules have been changed & they are allowed to bet place on 4 horse/dog races, it used to be 5 in a race you could, but 4 or less & it was a win only market allowed

another twilight meeting on Monday January 1st at Victor Harbor

there is potentially going to be a
7 horse field for the Cup
6 horse field for the trot

not really what the Club would be looking for on the biggest night of racing and given its $15 admission

Again ? ......they got a “stay of proceedings” for 2 or 3 years so that time went fast

I know of a horse from the Laird stable (can’t think of its name at the moment) that was savaged by an American Pit Bull while getting hosed down, the dog was on a leash but the young girl couldn’t hold it, photos of the aftermath were taken & the horse was at near death but did recover not 100% but did recover......Weigall oval has had horses being trained on it for at least 60 years so why can’t they leave it as is, baseball, soccer & so forth......about 100 years ago it was a greyhound coursing “arena” & on the old Glenelg train line it was one of the stops

My info is tbat the trotting people pay a lease to use Weigall.
But the other sports dont pay.
With the renno that will happen there will be no undercover stable facilities.

I went last night as i have been going for the last 6 years, gotta say, the crowds are dropping off every year, overheard a few complaining about the $15 admission fee. No atmosphere what so ever, even the band was AWOL unless they came on after the main feature race which i left straight after. It used to be a great family night out, it's not anymore so i think i'l give it a miss next year.

Also, check your betting ticket if you bet through the bookie there, i had a $10 bet, $5 each way on a roughy which ended up being scratched just before the race, i later went to get my money back only to realize he only printed out $5 for a place, i would have spewed if the horse ran and won. I did however after a lengthy chat get my money back, but doubt i would have if the horse had run and won at about 20/1.

There won't be any horses when the new development is finished.

Bit of time yet, but that's it for the horses.

I know the title of the thread indicates ''trots at Globe Derby''

but one has to mention that one of our leading drivers has driven 6 winners on a 7 race program at Port Pirie tonight, that is a sensational effort in anyones language, that driver being Danni Hill

well done Danni

I know the title of the thread indicates '' Trots Globe Derby."

But one has to mention that there is a meeting at the new Gawler track on Sunday 4/3/2018
It will be the first time with a new track
The old circuit was a tight front runners track , hopefully it should be beautiful all round track now
960 metres around, 180 metres straight
Hopefully its above average

David Harding won the last race of the previous track
Will his close friend Dannie Hill drive the first winner on the card , Santa Madre ?

I asked the question will Danni Hill drive the first winner at Gawler
The answer, YES

Great day out at Gawler
Good crowd in attendance
Some of the punting fraternity doubled up and attended Gawler dogs after the trots finished

Terry McAuliffe was the course commentator
Liked his call in one of the earlier races
There was a horse outside the leader and he called that horse being in the electric chair[the death seat]

The future of the club , from various sources
Intermittent meetings in the short term
Long term racing on a weekly basis , and depending who you talk to, either Sunday/Monday/Tuesday day meets
Monday might be the most logical as there are Gawler dog meetings Sunday evenings/Tuesday arvos
