Re: Big Bash League 2013/14
20/20 cricket a fantastic innovative cricketing extravaganza
Not everyone's cup of tea , there are 'traditionists' and others that dislike and even detest the comp.
As for me, I like all cricket
20/20 is fast and furious , and for me fun and entertainment in a 3 hour package.
All of a sudden we have a game in a time span like AFL Footy , Soccer , Basketball , and other sports where spectators can see a result in a points structured competition
I actually think there is a greater skill level needed than appears on face value
There's quite a few sports world wide where attendances are dropping
Cricket has evolved with 20/20 and found a way to attract a predominantly younger generation to attend games
When the original 20/20 games started , I had not envisaged the massive attendances
HARPO
I'm impressed with the link structured opening thread
All the color differentials gives it a real 20/20 look !
Will find the links very handy, its all a one stop guide that I can use

It's one of the best opening posts of a thread I've seen on any site
You must be a real 20/20 fan for the time and effort you put in
I'm currently reading up about all the players in each squad , using your links

ADELAIDE STRIKERS
INS
Hales
Dean
Lawford
Oakley
Zampa
HALES
Is England's big hitting 20/20 opening batsman , I hope Adelaide oval has building insurance on its new complex, Hales is going to batter the structures
Come to think of it, Hale may damage Taxis outside the ground
DEAN
Jono is the lad that hit 51 for the PMX1 against the West Indies
Dean might become a principle player
Plays in the Canberra comps
LAWFORD
Has played SS this season
Has a reputation of being a big hitting allrounder , from his district cricket days in Melbourne
OAKLEY
Strange pick up
31 year old left hand quick
Playing in the Canberra Cricket league
Might be used for his death bowling
Hopefully he is as accurate as Annie ...
ZAMPA
Adam ''could'' be a leg spinner in Internationals within 3 years
If he continues to improve could be anything
OUTS
Boyce
Theo the golden greek
Johnson
Lyon
Pollard
Ajmal [only played 1 game ?'
Young
Kieran Pollards all round ability , particularly his big hitting is a big loss
Hopefully Hales will cover his loss
Enough talent in the squad
Should be a chance to play finals
Hale is the key, if he fires , Adelaide will be very hard to beat

Dont think Kieran Pollard will be that much of a loss. Underperformed most season and didn't look that interested.

Alex Hales, played 1 game in BBL #2 for the Melbourne Renegades and hit an absolute monster shot into the old Green famous Grandstand with a clock (Cant remember name) at 111m but it was more likely up to 125m-135m!!!!
Think he made 86 off 54 (Or Similar)

Re: Big Bash League 2013/14
Here is a stat
since BBL started (Franchise)
there has been 62 Matches played (-D/L Matches)
32 times the team that batted first has won
Not many compared to what it was in the old State V State Comp
it was around 70% of batting first teams won
BTW could some people plz keep this thread going as i am leaving for Barmera tomorrow untill the 29th
Cheers in advance Harpo

Re: Big Bash League 2013/14
David Warner[ST]
Steve Smith [SS]
George Bailey [HH]
All playing in round 1 of the Big Bash
Interesting, anyone think that they should be focusing on the 4th Test instead ?
I think its OK
PS
Harpo
They have electricity in Barmera
TOSS
Last years stats on the toss [did this late at night so might be slightly wrong]
Win toss bat first
5 win
12 lose
Win toss and field
9 win
6 lose
Winning the toss and bowling first actually won the first 8 games last season !!
Minor round
32 games
14 wins sides batting first
18 wins sides batting second
Finals
Sides that won the toss all batted and all won
Total Toss Summary with finals
17 winners of toss won
18 losers of toss won
I think early in the season , when sides are trying to get into batting form , it might be wise for skippers to win the toss and BOWL first
This MIGHT work for say the first 10 matches

Strikers 1/87 (6) - 8 over match.
Play has to resume in the next 8 minutes or the game is abandoned
Hale 49 (19) - run out going for his 50

Probly the best 6 overs of Cricket I saw between the Hurricanes and the Strikers. Hales is a gun looking forward to heading down to Oval on New Years Eve and watching the Strikers.
Last night match I really good one to watch although I was flicking in between the Cricket and Love Actually
