T20 Big Bash games, thoughts & discussion
i'd much prefer States playing against each other than these 'franchised teams', however i take it for what it is...pure entertainment & this concept (T20) would probably work in America
would you pay to see a 60 year old Sir Viv Richards play in this tournament ?
i would & he has been signed on as a mentor to one of the Victorian teams as i watched an interview on the tv the other morning & he didn't dismiss the idea of 'putting on the pads'

I would also prefer the Big Bash concept of State v State
But I will watch all these games
A 3 hour package of cricket is great entertainment , particularly for the younger generation
I can also understand that some traditional cricket lovers detest 20/20
But as for me, I just like watching any cricket , anytime

I enjoy watching it, but prefer Test cricket.
It does show the adaptabilityof cricket, though.

Re: T20 Big Bash games, thoughts & discussion
I think any cricket enthusiast who considers themselves a "purist", it will always be about test cricket as the ultimate form of the game.
And this is why the reigning captains of world cricket have a supreme mandate that entertainment should be at the core of their decision making in games. Not recklessly though as it takes both sides to "tango" as it were.
But, it would sadden me to the point of losing interest if test cricket became a casualty to the international cricket calendar.
I just wonder if the sport can endure the 50 over genre as well as T20?
If one of those were to be sacrificed to the greater good of commercial outcomes, I would not lose sleep.
Let's face it, whilst the 50 over game preceded the Kerry Packer influence, it certainly never had significant popularity prior to it.
For mine one or the other has to give, and the growth of the 20 over format would seemingly indicate that it is here to stay.

Re: T20 Big Bash games, thoughts & discussion
I don't take the T20 as a serious tournament, but can understand its entertainment value and promotional tool for the other two forms.
I went to the game when the Hurricanes knocked over the Strikers at Adelaide Oval last season. It was a terrific atmosphere, (we donned purple t-shirts with 'Hobart' on the front and 'Cousins' on the back) and I have been told by the wife that we are heading to Hobart to watch the Hurricanes games this summer. She adopted our new state quickly!

Just got home from work, and now have the Strikers game on
Adelaide 2/64 (9) chasing 163
Need 99 off 66
On a side note, I'm intrigued by the stumps - they light up when broken.

Tight finish, but they should win, unless they stuff up.

Re: T20 Big Bash games, thoughts & discussion
Quite a remarkable team that Adelaide Strikers fielded
On this Perth pitch , which has normally assisted faster bowlers over the years AS picked an attack of 3 off spinners
AjMal
Botha
Lyon
These 3 guys are arguably in the top half a dozen offies in world T20 cricket
Did AS overload with spin on this deck, despite winning ?
Should AjMal have been picked for one game in the Big Bash ?
The answer, in hindsight, is AS won , and the AjMal selection is vindicated
Special mention for a special player
Phil Hughes , in sensational Domestic form in all 3 formats for his adopted state
Has rectified most of his iffy offside technique and has become a proficient leg side batter
Whether he can succeed at Test Level is ?
Those faster bowlers with a packed slip cordon will Test him out

Re: T20 Big Bash games, thoughts & discussion
scrappy, Chuck Berry said in an interview last week that while Perth is a quick bowlers friend for one dayers & the longer forms of the game the stats say the spinners a winners in the T20 concept
there is another stat going out the door, batting first & winning, hasn't happened in the 4 games thus far

Scorches capitulate to be all out for 69 tonight - taking the record low total from the Redbacks.
Interesting finish though, Melbourne Stars were 0/29 after 2 overs when there was a rain delay, reducing the match to 5 overs and the target to 6. After the rain delay, Melbourne Stars faced one ball to ensure the match was 'officially' a 5 over game and win by 10 wickets.
The Star were deserved winners but an interesting way to end it.

Perth responding to their disaster against the Stars well
Sydney 6ers 5/18 (5.3)
At this rate Perth's lowest score record could last just 3 games!
