starring
Richard Carlson..he's in a couple of 1950's sci fi films i like
Julia Adams...looks ok in the swimming scenes
Whit Bissell....one of my all time favourite character actors
----------------------------------------------------------------
to put it briefly a fossil is discovered & an archeological expedition begins & in turn they end up 'meeting' the creature in the black lagoon & he was also called a 'gill man' & 'man fish' in the film, it has a touch of King Kong to the story, as well as two of the main characters wanting the same woman (Julia Adams) & as the story progresses there is a subtle hint & clues that 'the creature' has as much intelligence as modern man, especially where he dams up the lagoon so the boat can not leave.....
while there is no special effects like we get today it is a film worth watching so if you can find it on dvd, video or on late night tv & you have just over an hour to spare it is worth a look, suitable for most ages..............
looking forward to watching other 1950's sci fi films such as
''It Came From Outer Space''
''Them''
''The Blob''
''The Giant Claw''
and a few more than that
What a double header on Foxtel 113 on 23/9
Back to back
Planet Of The Apes [1968]
Creature From The Black lagoon[1954]
CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON [8.5]
The last time I saw this film was about the early 70s
As I kid I was interested in what the creature was up to
Almost a half a century after I was more interested in Julie Adams
Julie Adams was about 27- 28 when this cult movie was made
She reminded me of 3 other celebs
Had the Elizabeth Taylor look about her
The eyes and features of Miranda Kerr
The eyebrows and hair of Brooke Shields
Some irony here
Julie Adams Black Lagoon
Brooke Shields Blue Lagoon
Julie Adams is now 89 years old
Whit Bissell is also a favorite actor of mine
Perhaps best remembered as the General in The Time Tunnel

PLANET OF THE APES [9.5]
A classic made in 1968, starring the great action actor Charlton Heston
I saw this movie in the early 70s
I rode my pushbike to see this movie at the Woodville Town Hall, when I was living in the 70s
From that point I was Hooked on the trilogy of the Ape movies
The first record I ever bought was Apeman by the Kinks
That song and that movie were about the affects of newk wars
Ray Davies of the Kinks sang the Apeman lyric
*I think Im so educated and Im so civilized
Cause Im a strict vegetarian
But with over population and inflation and starvation
And the crazy politicians
I dont feel safe in this world no more
I dont want to die in a nuclear war
I want to sail away to a distant shore and make like an apeman*
Ray Davies sang about an iffy future in the 1970 classic song
In 1968 Charlton Heston enacted an iffy future
Great song , great movie
" Take your stinking paws of me, you damn dirty ape."

Bone Tomahawk .. Western 2015.
When a group of cannibal savages kidnaps settlers from the small town of Bright Hope, an unlikely team of gunslingers, led by Sheriff Franklin Hunt, sets out to bring them home. But their enemy is more ruthless than anyone could have imagined.
Kurt Russell leads an all-star cast, including Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox and Richard Jenkins.
Warning ... some scenes may be disturbing (one in particular) to some and if you have a weak stomach, you may require a paper bag to vomit in.
Rating 8/10 ... a bit slow at times but it's one of those movies you have to sit through to see how it ends.

BONE TOMAHAWK
After seeing the movie heading, perhaps one could have thought it starred Chris Mcdermott and Tom Hawkins
KURT RUSSELL
This guy has been acting forever and ever
Debuted in 1963 in It Happened At The Worlds Fair
That was an Elvis movie
In 1979 he then played Elvis in a movie
I can recall him in an episode of Lost In Space as a little warrior kid in the 1960s, Ive followed his career since about then
Kurt is now 64 tears old , and has been a brilliant actor
I would watch this movie Tomahawk as he is in it

I downloaded and watched it yesterday, worth watching.
Typical type western until the last 20 minutes or so when your jaw drops during one of the most brutal scenes I’ve seen in a movie.
Kurt Russell was very good. Richard Jenkins plays an old deputy sheriff and played the part perfectly.

The FJ Holden (1977)
Kevin (Paul Couzens) and his best mate Bob (Carl Stever) drive around Sydney trying to pick up girls in Kevin's FJ Holden.
A younger Sigrid Thornton is in it but doesn’t play much of a part.
Background music by O'L 55
Poor acting but if you grew up in that era, it certainly brings back fond memories of the 70's.
Overall
6/10
On a side note, after this movie was released, there was a high demand for FJ Holdens. Everyone wanted one.

I can relate to that movie being a teenager when it was released
I saw the movie for the first time a couple of years ago
I enjoyed the movie

THE AGE OF CONSENT[7.3]
1969
James Mason
Helen Mirren
Is actually on 16/12/2015

Mirren meets Mason at the beach side and aims to please
There is a scene where you see Helen Mirren as you may never have seen her before , thats skinny dipping
Saw this movie a long time ago, cant remember much about the plot, so will watch it again for that reason !
Mason is about 60 in this film
Mirren is about 24 in this film

Re: Movies you have scene [no spoilers]
So I went along and caught the latest Star Wars last night.
It was fricking brilliant.
The storyline was fast paced, but not too complicated, and with some great twists and turns.
The new characters were excellent - and the new 'darth vader' type character was well cast (rectifying the fatal error they made with casting the wet as lettuce Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker in the last batch of movies).
There were times in the movie I felt like a little kid again, just lapping it up.
Bottom line is, if you've never 'got' Star Wars well then this isn't going to make you a fan - but if you're a Star Wars fan you will bloody well love this movie. Right up there with the 80's originals.

Yep - 8 or 9 out of 10.

It's interesting, isn't it. I've never sat through any of the movies despite being right in the age bracket the original movies were targeted at and my son loves them, absolutely loves them.
Anyway, beam me up Scotty.

The Hateful Eight.. (Western 2015)
Strange movie for a western which tried to be a Agatha Christie type of who done it.
Set in a trading post during a snow storm with a bounty hunter (Kurt Russel) bringing in prisoner ( Jennifer Jason Leigh) for hanging, and another bounty hunter ( Samuel L. Jackson ) along with a few other shady characters who make up the eight.
Directed by Quentin Tarantino who i think could have made it a great movie, but he went the long way around and what should have been shown early in the movie was explained late in the movie.
Anyway, it's ok for a 2 hour movie, a bit slow at times but it's one you have to sit through to try and work out who the bad guys are.
A bit gory and violent at times, lots of blood when some shooting starts but overall not bad.
Movie Rating .. 8 /10
Acting .. 9 /10

The Revenant 2015
Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson
In 1823, a crew of hunters and trappers travelling through U.S. territory suffer heavy losses in an ambush by Arikara Indians.
It's a long movie which is a copy (intentional or not) of a movie called 'Man in the Wilderness' which starred Richard Harris (1971). A similar scenario where Hugh Glass played by DiCaprico is mauled by a bear and left for dead. He of course survives and chases down the party that left him behind to die.
It's 2 1/2 hours long but interesting and the bear mauling scene is incredible.
Movie rating- 7 / 10. lower because i think it's a remake of another movie.
Acting 9/10 and the bear gets 10/10

I saw this a few weeks ago.
Not a hell of a lot of dialogue in it for the length. Too long really.
I didn't think DiCaprio was as good as an Oscar deserves.
I have also seen Man in The Wilderness too.
I would give The Revenant a 7 /10 too. Too long for mine. Could have cut 40mins off it easily without losing anything much.
DiCaprio also 7/10. Became a bit implausible how many attacks from bears, Indians, blizzards, frostbite and his fellow whitemen he could survive.
Agree the bear was good.
