Gary Putland
How good would this guy be if he played for QL ?
SA were thrashed by QL in the last game last season
Putland last game 2011-2012 v QL
6/72[30]
In the current game
5/100[34]
1/47[13]
Thats 12/219 V QL at the Gabba
I really feel sorry for guys like George and Putland who are both good bowlers
They bowl a lot on the Adelaide Oval , which is considered the friendliest off all SS decks

Interesting with a 1st Inns lead of 214, the Bulls thought they needed another 248 to beat the Redbacks! Looks like another long and embarrassing summer for the Redbacks.

Re: Cricket - First Class 2013/14
if the pitch as reported was a green top at the start surely the fourth day will be the best pitch of all days, the last score i heard at work was 2/111 so i have some hope for TOMorrow...must admit i fear hearing 5/379 then all out 415 TOMorrow

The first innings was the usual.
One player makes half the score and the other 10 don't average even 10.

Opposition bowlers don't have any problems pinging out SA batsman at Adelaide Oval.

Hughes 83
Mennie 39*
Ludeman 0 (1)
Why didn't we go out and recruit a keeper who can bat?

Or anyone who can bat for that matter.

South Australia has gained the services of Phil Hughes and Johan Botha
This will add depth and class to the Sheffield Shield and Ryobi Cup teams
Unfortunately, it hasn't added depth, it's added a crust over a crap pie underneath.

Re: Cricket - First Class 2013/14
We seem to have two recurring problems:
1 Only one batsman scoring in an innings:
2 We often dismiss the top half cheaply, then get smashed by the lower order.

Our batting has been a joke for too many years now.
Most first innings, the bulk of the team barely average 10.

Re: Cricket - First Class 2013/14
TA 3/403 dec
SA 7/93
We need to patient , the good times will eventually come
Things are being done
District Cricket has a innovation for this season
Sides batting first will no longer have to conclude their innings closed after 96 overs
That means the teams batting first can now bat on and on and on
I have mixed views for and against
Against
Towards the end of the season some sides in front on the ladder, may just bat for as long as possible
For example team A is top playing team B in 2nd spot in the last round
Team A may just opt to bat as long as possible if batting first [and may even bat for 2 days]
Against
In rain affected games the side batting second might be too advantaged
For example, games shortened to about 96 overs after week 1 was washed out
Team A batting first would find it hard to set a target
Team B have an opportunity to bowl out team A and force the issue
For
This is an overwhelming For in my opinion
Sides will need to produce wicket taking bowlers
Medium pacers and dart bowlers will be less effective
Fast bowlers with good strike rates will be necessary to bowl out teams
Spin bowlers will need to become wicket takers as well and not restrictors
Quite simply you will need to bowl sides out, not contain them
Overall its worth a punt, producing better equipped bowlers for the next step to SS cricket is logical

Now 4/80
Ferg and Hughes both out.
Might struggle to last the day with still nearly 30 overs left (weather permitting)
