I'm certainly not blaming you at all, Millsy.
Someone else has been a bit careless and that will become clear before long

The response by some on this particular subject is silly, this is just becomming a forum for some to argue and get the subject that we are talking about locked.
No longer can we comment on the community effort by players and members of the Bloods doing volunteer work because of a few F@#KWITS that have been responsible for it to also being locked.

Re: Black Caviar win no 23
Vain "only" won three races over the week of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. A stayer of some ability called Phar Lap won 4 races over the Melbourne Cup week.bayman wrote:Vain won 4 races in one week during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, i doubt that this mare could do that (not that she has to prove that)
barring Hay List most of her opponents have been sub standard especially compared to Vains opponents, it does mean that she has been well placed & it isn't her fault the opposition isn't there
Vain would have been unbeaten except for illness or injury (can't remember which it was now) & the other was jockey error, Roy Higgins had a ride when the normal jockey was (Pat Hyland ?) wasn't available & the professor said it was his fault as he made the error
otl, do you remember Minuetto ?
i know some racing journalists who on air & in papers praise all the accolades she deserves & they all think the same & that being she is very good but not as good as people think & i'm also in that category
by the way Carbine was the best galloper i ever witnessed
Vain's two losses both involved Roy Higgins. After winning the Golden Slipper it poured with rain for the next couple of weeks and trainer Jim Moloney couldn't put the work into Vain that he wanted. Beau Babylon ridden by Roy Higgins thus beat Vain ridden by Pat Hyland. Vain turned the tables in the Champagne Stakes when he beat Beau Babylon by 6 weeks. As a three year old Vain lost to champion New Zealand middle distance youngster, Daryl's Joy over a mile. The general consensus at the time that Vain was too brilliant to run the mile. But then Vain turned the tables on Daryl's Joy next start in the Caulfield Guineas. He then went on to win the three races in a week over the cup carnival.
For what it is worth, Higgins thinks that Manikato is the greatest sprinter he ever rode, but maybe his view would be different if he had been Vain's regular rider. Then again how often did he ride Manikato, G. Willetts was its regular rider.
And of course there is no film of Carbine, but interestingly if you read any articles from the 1930s about Phar Lap, to a man anyone who saw them both, and remember there would have been plenty given that they were only 40 years apart, all rated Carbine superior to Phar Lap.

As an avid fan of thoroughbreds, I can't get into this discussion about who was the best, and to start to comparing horses from different era's is not my on my agenda.
Training ,tracks , feed and jockeys all come into today's equation and to try equate this to todays way of training a horse is just far to hard.
I love watching Black Caviar racing, BUT, most of the opposition she has faced have been very inferior as far as ability is concerned.

Recommend all to attend early morning training session at Morphetteville, is great -I love to watch these magnificent animals.
However, when I was young my uncle who was a jockey caught me having a bet and took me to the stables to watch everybody from the trainer, connections and strappers give the favorite a drink of water so that it could not run up to ability - moral that he wanted to teach me was do not bet as there is too many interested parties

well Black Caviar juggernaut continues with a sell out performance coming up at a night meeting, i wonder how the AFL feels about the timing of the race given a round 1 match will be staged at the same time

Can't wait to see her race again but I do also hope the field is a reasonable one, not just 4 or 5 other horses and some of those from the Moody stables to boost the numbers.

i think we all know that, i'm saying with a sell out at the races, the crowd at the football will be somewhat smaller

She has started at $1.05...so I can only assume it will be the $1.00?
