who remembers 'on this day' ? the 5 minute history segment at the end of the nights television broadcast...yes folks the tv stopped broadcasting around midnight for many years & then went all night over the weekends for a while, was it Bob Pucetti ? with a rough voice who hosted the
mid-dawn show for a while

Re: On this day in history...
Every year on a particular date the Advertiser mentions in its "on this day" column that John Howard and KG Cunningham were born on the same day. I think it was 1938. Seen it in there each year for a few years, most recently about 2 weeks ago.

Remember both of these very well, Station Close was a ceremonial thing in that era.
The Mid-Dawn Show was ahead of its time. Was indeed the American, Bob Pucetti, who used to have studio guests selling anything from garden supplies to used cars, in a studio format. He still lives in Adelaide and writes into newspapers from time to time.

Must have been only a few days later that Peter Brock passed away?

From memory, A Mum, it was the same year, was perhaps a week or so later I think.
*Actually just checked wikipedia, Peter Brock passed away on 8 September 2006.
I remember at the time, people were saying "these things always happen in 3's". Someone else slightly less well known did die around the same time, although I can't remember who the third person was, now.

Might have been Colin Thiele (from a google search, it appears he passed away about a week earlier).

You could be right there FF - I definitely remember something about 3 'famous' people all passing around the same time.

57 years ago the western classic series Gunsmoke was aired
635 episodes later in 1975 this iconic TV Western ended
2 characters Matt Dillon[James Arness] and Doc Adams[Milburn Stone] played parts for the duration of the series
This was a show I used to watch, and still do occasionally on Foxtel 114
Who can forget Kitty, Matt, Festus, Doc,Sam , and some of the others
They are all deceased presently
2 of the Gunsmiths from this programme are still alive
Newly played by Buck Taylor
And another who went on to further screen greatness was Quint played by Burt Reynolds
And the most frequent villain in the Dodge City setting would have to be the guy that looks a bit like Merv Hughes, that dastardly Victor French

Re: On this day in history...
i'm sure Queen also had an album ''A night at the opera''
Groucho was very very good friends with Alice Cooper, Grouch loved Alice Coopers shows as it reminded him of Vaudeville & he took his contemporaries like Jack Benny to Alice Cooper shows, i'm sure on one of those albums there is a little cartoon type picture of Groucho on it..............
i've got an out take of You Bet Your Life when a girl came on similar looking to Marilyn Monroe &
Groucho says ''i see here (reading a cue card) you want to be a mother & be in show business, do you think you can do both''?
Girl, ''i think if you can keep your feet on the ground you can combine both''
Groucho ''if you keep your feet on the ground you'll never be a mother''
ps, happy 122nd birthday to Grouch Marx....legends live on forever
