Best players to and from another club at your club
Continuing the theme, who are the best 'pick-ups' from another club to have played at your club?
Unfortunately, Rod Pope and Greg Nicolson to Norwood come to mind quickly.
Trevor Grimwood won a Magarey with us, but wasn't an impact player at Port before coming to us.
Neil Kerley to South, of course.

Bob Shearman. I was very young at the time but was disappointed when he moved from the Eagles to Sturt. I believe he stood out of football to do it. WT were the poorer for it. I had the Mobil card at the time with his picture on it.

On the transfer of Shearman to the Blues, I am sure that 5 flags and 4 years as captain probably vincdicated his decision.
On the subject of Sturt Captains, it seems that in the last 50 years, quite a significant number have been recruits from other clubs.
Besides Shearman,
Neil Craig (from Norwood)
John Paynter (from Glenelg - 4 B&Fs)
Zane Kirkwood (from Port - 2 flags and 4 B&Fs to date)
Chris Thedgold (from North, I think is the longest serving captain)
And then there are Brodie Atkinson and Damian Squire from North both with B&Fs and Magarey Medals and a flag. Thanks North.
More recently Ben Kane from Glenelg (1 B&F).

Michael Wakelin came to us from Port he was a very good player and we never really saw the best of him because of a knee injury.

At Norwood (in my time):
Popey and Nicho (as mentioned by Lee)
Butch Phillis
Bruce Winter
Rocky Roberts
Andrew Jarman
Frank Stemper
Troy Clements
James West
Damian Obst
Tim Weatherald
Luke Jericho
James Allan
All to varying degrees, and apologies to those that have skipped my memory.

Just before my time
Alfred Topsy Waldron [Carlton] they say his ghost is still at the Norwood Oval
George Giffen [Woodville] who is also considered one of Australias greatest cricketing all rounders
Just a couple to add to the Scrunch listings
Johhny Two Eight elbows Wynne [West Perth]
Ben Dugga Warren [South Adelaide]
Both key position players who contributed extremely well in premiership seasons

I bumped into Wakes' at Cibo in the city on the weekend, just gone.southern bulldog wrote:Michael Wakelin came to us from Port he was a very good player and we never really saw the best of him because of a knee injury.
Saw my CDFC polo that I was wearing and was happy for a quick chat.
Was a very talented and versatile player who used to be a linesman for ETSA and got badly electrocuted once.
Was a Firefighter for a while, as well. Not sure if he still is.

Two-Eight I didn't consider as I was just thinking SANFL Club-> SANFL Club but feel bad for omitting Dugga - He was massive for Norwood. The more you watch the 2012 GF (apologies Westies fans) the more you think he should have been in contention for the JO Medal up to his teeth. Played a significant part in the 2013 Premiership, then from the coaches box oversees one of the clubs finest ever hours. Huge impact.
