Would this be the first time the reigning premier has no representative.

Chris Schmidt would have to be considered unlucky to not make the final 25...Lee wrote:Would this be the first time the reigning premier has no representative.

Both sides will be very inexperienced from a state game viewpoint.
Vics have about 6-7 from their last game 2 years ago, SA not many more from their trip wast last year.

Had AA on in the car on the way home last night, Rowe claiming 15-20,000 crowd would be about right.
I think more like 1500-2000!

I'm thinking about 2600 to 2800. Either way, this game would have been better suited to one of the suburban grounds.Booney wrote:Had AA on in the car on the way home last night, Rowe claiming 15-20,000 crowd would be about right.

He couldn't have been serious, surely?
Why would he even bother wasting his breath was those type of figures...
If he wanted to try and glam it up and put up a more realistic unrealistic figure, he should have said 5,000...
Really, Rowey?

He mentioned the same on the Life FM broadcast on the weekend and was quickly shot down with the real figures of the past few years.

Will be absolutely no atmosphere at Adelaide Oval shouldve been played on a suburban ground.

An inner-city venue like Coopers Stadium or Peter Motely Oval would have been a good selection, in my opinion...

Rotating it over the 8 grounds "when in SA", so how long would it be before each ground got the event? Upwards of 16 years...!
Why not Thebarton? I'd go just to relive the days of going to Thebby, I think others would too. Waste of time opening up half of AO when there'll be less than 3000 people there.

Or reigning premier gets to host, or even send to a regional town. Either way I definitely agree with keeping it away from Adelaide Oval.

I like the idea of Thebby, but the facilities are a little delapidated and would need a decent upgrade, I'd say...

I don't understand the logic of playing the game at Adelaide Oval at all - unless someone at the SANFL was sucked into Stephen Rowe's claims the game will attract 15,000 people.

I think the WAFL hosted the VFL in regional WA a few years back...

Northam (about 1.5 hours East of Perth) back in 2013.
Agreed .... if the SANFL is putting the hard word on clubs to ensure they are financially making surpluses maybe they should follow assist with giving clubs a chance to host games like this and ANZAC Day.
Cant see how these matches with 3-4K it can make a profit at AO but say a 4,000 crowd at a suburban ground would be a bar / canteen bonanza for the hosts.

Once all the work at West Lakes is complete, is there still to be a reduced version of footy park as was once mooted? The league could really do with a smaller neutral venue (albeit West Lakes is probably not the ideal location) for state games, minor finals across all grades, Anzac Day maybe

Re: 2016 State Game - SANFL v VFL, Sunday 29 May @ Adelaide Oval
Football Park is dead as far as hosting games goes, the success of AO ensures nobody would be prepared to go "all the way" to West Lakes. Just won't happen.
Plus, with "the West" development Max Basheer reserve is gone, so too several hundred or more car park spaces. West Lakes Shopping Centre charges for parking, the bus lane down the middle of the Boulevard is no more....
The only thing Football Park stands for is free housing for the AFC that the SANFL and it's clubs fund. Around $2m per year from the SANFL coffers for the Adelaide Football Club to train on. That is all.
