2015 Trial Games - LIVE Updates
Got here at Coopers Stadium, looking forward to seeing some SANFL action, with the Norwood v Port trial games.
Unfortunately, the Reserves game has had to be cancelled, despite the players all ready to just about take their positions on the field.
When Norwood signed the contract to have the NAB Cup game here, the fine print said that there was to be 'limited use on the playing surface, prior to the AFL game on Sunday.
The AFL must have got wind of the fact that there were going to something on the oval, not being aware there were 2 games scheduled.
So, after some frantic negotiation, it has been agreed upon, by both clubs, the SANFL and the AFL, to pull the Reserves game and just play the League one, at 7:40pm, still.
So now all the fans here have to hang around for another few hours before the League game kicks off.
An interesting start to the 2015 season, to say the least !!!

Yes, correct. I think he played up in the Hills last year, from memory, after leaving Norwood...

"Former Norwood speedster Luke Wilson – brother of premiership player Anthony – has returned to Alberton to be named in the league squad".

Re: 2015 Trial Games - LIVE Updates
In breaking news, the AFL have announced the cancellation of all minor round games this year. All finals, except the Grand Final, will also be cancelled,
AFL Chief, Gil McSafety, told the assembled media that it was the only logical decision available to the AFL. The risk to players' safety was the major factor in arriving at this decision. "We had to cancel an SANFL trial match at Norwood last week which, if it had gone ahead, would have endangered the safety of our players 3 days later", he said.
All minor round matches would be decided by a coin toss, in a specially safety-modified environment approved by the National Safety Council for Coin Tossers ('Tossers' for short).
The TV rights to the coin tosses will be sold for more than the current game contract amount, but available only to a new Corporate Only TV broadcaster and the results announced to the masses by subscription only.
In rejecting criticism of this approach, Mr McSafety said it would open up the game to more people overseas, as he announced that a new competition would replace the current competition, to be played in special safety-designed stadiums in China, where costs and insurance premiums were vastly less than in Australia. TV rights would go to a new Foxtel service, starting at a bargain price of $25,000, "which was well under the average supporter's yearly income."
"The issue of safety is paramount", he said "and not playing any games is the obvious answer to this problem. We recently found some grass on an oval 4 millimetres longer than prescribed, there are goalposts all around Australia lower than the 40 metre minimum requirement, while the Moorook Football Club bunker has insufficient room for each club's GPS expert. It is all just a disaster waiting to happen".
He announced that pressure from the Corporate sector had meant the Grand Final would still be played, but in Qatar at a time and place to be advised by the Emir.
Meanwhile, for those still wanting a footy fix, West will play Norwood next Saturday. The BBQ will be open. Spectators are advised that some will have to stand up for the game and talk to opposing supporters.
Mr McSafety advised the AFL were doing whatever it could to stamp out this disgraceful state of affairs.

Don't laugh bayman. It could happen. Nothing the AFL does, no matter how ridiculous, would surprise me. Tossing coins would be fine, as long as there was enough money in it. That's all that matters to those who run the circus
