Re: 2015 O.D.I World Cup
I have to say having the WC mostly on pay TV is crap.
You would hardly even know it's on.
With the Aussies having Saturday's game called off, we've effectively got a fortnight with no cricket on the TV in mid February when there's a fricken World Cup on in OUR COUNTRY.
Ridiculous.

Agreed Ginge, it's deplorable when Channel 9 has 3 stations to choose from.
Surely Foxtel see no value in paying for Scotland V Afghanistan on a Thursday at lunch time?
By the time push comes to shove I won't really be interested.

Therefore, you wonder what having the minnows of cricket involved actually brings to the world cup.
If nobody wants to televise them or is much interested in them, why have these countries involved?
It is a bit farcical.
Are we supposed to just get interested when the second round kicks off?

I remember the last WC in Australia in 1992. It was everywhere, and there were a lot of nights spent as a 12 yr old lying on the lounge room floor watching cricket.
While obviously being a different experience as an adult, I expected a similar experience this WC. Nope.
Nearly 100k fans at the MCG yesterday and you wouldn't even know if you didn't live in Melbourne.

Re: 2015 O.D.I World Cup
i enjoyed the cricket yesterday, India were outstanding & in the earlier match Afghanistan gave Sri Lanka a big fright a few times & belief or a lack of belief cost them dearly.........btw it isn't an advantage having fox when your stuck at work .....having associate member teams can only do good for their respective countries & it wasn't that long ago that at least one player from an associate member country played in the big bash, so they can't be all that bad.......my favourite world cup moment comes from a player from an associate member country (Bermuda), his name Dwayne Leverock.................he is that moment below

Pakistan have sent home Moin Khan (not a player these days) because he went to the casino after the team lost their match..... surely there can be some time off for everyone !!!

Great game last night between Ireland & UAE. Skills weren't what you expect from the top 4 but it was a great contest that went down to the final over.

How good is Sangakkara? 4 ODI Centuries on the trot.
He doesn't often get a mention when discussing modern day great batsman but his record compares more than favourably to Ponting, Lara, Tendulkar, Dravid and Kallis. 12,000 Test runs at 58.66, 38 centuries in 130 tests which is one every 3.4 tests (very non-shabby) and 200 wicket keeping dismissals.
Given that Sachin averaged 53.78 and "only" got a century every 3.9 tests, Sanga's record is very, very good.

Sangakkara
ODI
Averages 8.50 against United Arab
Averages 10.00 against Ireland
Needs to improve his status against those 2 teams !
ODI record v Australia
46 innings
1813 runs
43.16 average
ODI record in full
379 innings
14189 runs
41.97 average
Some measure of a true champ is his ability to score against the best
Sangakkara manages to do this
That he doubles up at times as the SL keeper , makes him one of the greatest ODI players of all time

Re: 2015 O.D.I World Cup
The words of the first verse of Ireland's 'alternate' national anthem (that they use for the cricket side) couldn't ring truer today:
Come the day and come the hour
Come the power and the glory
We have come to answer our country's call
The four proud provinces of Ireland
Either that or we start doing rain dances for Napier.

Re: 2015 O.D.I World Cup
do these two teams play for some sort of tribute to Bob Woolmer ? perhaps a Bob Woolmer memorial medal/trophy in his honour ?
if not should they have a tribute/memorial award for Bob Woolmer ?
i'm tipping Ireland to cause the upset again today, K. O'Brien to top score for the Irish

Not that I know off Bayman - in fact I think this is the first time since that famous 2007 match they've played each other.
The UAE fighting to pretty close to (if not reaching) 50 overs may play into Pakistan and Ireland's favour with the weather in Napier about to turn pretty nasty apparently.

obviously not expecting a Pakistan collapse, neither am i but they have good form at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory

Fantastic game of cricket between NZ and South Africa.
Played in great spirit.
A lesson for those who think sledging and abuse are necessary for a spectacle.
