T20 World Cup
The Aussies are ranked 8th so it seems.
What do we think about the squad?
For mine, I can see us remaining being ranked 8th.
T20 is a game for creative players and the lineup looks too stacked with the old tried and tested one day squad.
AUSTRALIA'S WORLD T20 SQUAD: Steve Smith (c), David Warner (vc), Ashton Agar, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, John Hastings, Josh Hazlewood, Usman Khawaja, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Peter Nevill, Andrew Tye, Shane Watson, Adam Zampa.
We lost the ODIs to New Zealand and we were fairly well spanked by India in the T20.
6 current test players in the squad.
8 of them also in the losing ODI team in NZ.
As to the Batters:
I ask whether Steve Smith, as good as he is, is an out and out T20 player?
Let's face it he's played about 2 of them in the last 4 months.
Watson is not the answer for me. He may peel off a big one, but that will be it.
On spinning Indian decks, is his footwork good enough? I think we know the answer to that.
Khuwaja ticks my boxes as the most in form Aussie batsman right now. And showed it when given a chance in the T20 format.
Similarly Warner and Finch score so quickly and can bludgeon them around.
Finch must be a little suspect due to the hammy injury.
Maxwell and Faulkner provide some necessary creativity. But both have not been as dominant in this format this season in my opinion.
Mitchell Marsh is a bit of a wildcard. I can't recall what he has dominated in with the bat this season. I guess he provides enough all rounder status, but there are quite a few others too in this category.
It is said that Head and Lynn's big hitting BBL form on Aussie pitches may not translate to India, but I can't accept that all the other batsmen have automatic higher claims. We are ranked 8th in what is essentially a sluggers' game.
Hazelwood on slower Indian decks? Not too sure about that one. He is a consistent line and length bowler (in the McGrath mould) and in India I can see that getting picked off.
Coulter-Nile has played stuff all cricket, so not sure what we can expect there.
McKay the BBL leading wicket taker must have done something pretty bad to be overlooked in both short forms of the game.
Just don't know that we approach T20 with the right mindset. Surely BBL is a good nursery to use for selection? Maybe Mr Marsh doesn't think so.

Bowling looks weak. Not sure that Agar, Tye or Couter-Nile should be there. Agar was barely used in the BBL, C-N hasn't bowled a ball in anger for months and Tye wasn't that impressive. You would think that there are better choices.

Disappointed that Travis Head didn't get picked, also would have thought BBL form would have played a bigger part in the selection of the squad.

India to win the title in a canter, maybe over the West Indies but that'll depend on who(player wise) is representing them

Re: T20 World Cup
I see an article yesterday stating that there will be no tv coverage of world cup on tv as none of the tv networks are willing to pay for coverage. Radio coverage also seems unlikely.

It will be on Fox surely, unless the Indians wanted a totally unrealistic amount for it.
Doesn't help those without pay TV or course.

Not even Fox wants it. A very high price cited by the Indian TV channel plus an additional 30% to cover the ICC tax liability.
Something about "killing the goose that laid the golden egg" comes to mind.

Great effort by the Black Caps. Would be wonderful if India miss the finals.
Our bowling attack looks weak. Tye bleeds runs and is just not good enough. Hazelwood should be playing in front of him. Maxwell is a concern, his spin was to be counted on and he is another who is going for 10 and over in all the warm-ups.

West Indies beat England, Chris Gayle 100, West Indies would have to be one of the favourites for the tournament I would have thought, especially if india get knocked out early.

Surprising to see Australia at such short odds, it will be interesting to see if Adam Zampa plays in the first match against NZ

i can't believe England were favourite, happy to get $2.20 the Windies' given their side, i've only had one losing bet thus far on the T20 World Cup & that was India against the Kiwis

England's batting looks ok, it is the bowling that may be thier problem throughout the tournament.
