Re: Trial Games Results/Updates
A very poor performance by the Bloods, although it was really a near-league side in Port, against a near Reserves side by West, as trials often tend to be.
For West supporters. the centre square quartet for mosr of the day was Fielke and three Reserves players. Ferguson and Tippett only played the first half and Wilson's opponents were Kurt Thompson and Brad Kirk most of the day. Notwithstanding that (and a 37 - 9 free kick count!), Port were a class above and Wilson gives them a great target. Cockshell dominated West's ruckmen and Port basically had a training run.
For West, Chris Schmidt was consistently good and Nick Homburg showed a lot of improvement with a terrific first half in particular. The other standout for the Bloods was young Rory Laird, the Crows first rookie selection, who looked right at home in a back pocket. He's a high possession winner.
West were smashed in their first trial last year by South and then proceeded to star the season in great style, but it was a hard day for loyal West supporters hoping to see some excitement in their first hitout of then year. There was excitement, but it was all in black and white.
Next week, though, they should welcome back a host of league regulars.
Oh, there was some excitement, but in the early game, where young key forward Mason Middleton looks a standout.

wwt got up by 3 points after trailing by 7 goals early, Parry went into ruck after half time & he was the difference as far as a 'result' is concerned, as for the trial itself both clubs would have been happy with what they saw

Re: Trial Games Results/Updates
Only a trial but from what I saw in the last qtr of the ressies and first half of the league Port looked 5 wks further along in their season development. Better drilled, looked fitterand played with some system,West flooded which made it hard for their forwards when they spent a fair chunk of their time up on the wing and didn't appear to have much idea on what to do coming out of their backline. West appeared to lack spirit/interest in the contest and were very disappointing, but with half their team missing it's a big hard to judge too much at this early stage. Looks like the maggies may have picked up a pretty useful full forward in Wilson, and if they use Thurgood as their lead up forward as they did today and have Harder and a resting ruckman up forward they could cause some teams a few headaches. The surface at Alberton was in superb nick, better than I've seen in a long time.

Collins needs to learn that flooding is truly a THING OF THE PAST! We cannot rely on it to be succesful!

It makes you wonder doesn't it? I have the same problem with Bassett at Norwood. It seems to me that some coaches prepare their teams to win SANFL premierships, and others audition for AFL assistant coaching roles.
