Post by bayman Fri Jan 17, 2014 5:32 pm

two well known actors have passed away within the last 24 hours or so, Russell Johnson most remembered as 'The Professor' on Gilligans Island & Dave Madden most remembered as the manager 'Reuben Kincaid' on The Partridge Family

Russell i remember as a prolific B movie actor & i rate his role on ''It Came From Outer Space'' as memorable

Dave i can't recall any film roles but he seemed to pop up on a lot of tv shows

RIP GENTLEMEN, gone but not forgotten

I dont think any of the male cast members fom Gilligans Island are still with us anymore.

It was a fairly lightweight show, but had some fairly decent actors in it.

Russell Johnson
How things may have been different
Johnson tried for the part of Doctor Ben Casey in 1961 [which eventually was played by Vince Edwards]
Had he got that part , he probably may never have been the Professor in Gilligan's Island that aired in 1964

Other others considered for Gilligan's Island
Raquel Welch went for the role as Mary Anne
Jayne Mansfield was the first choice for Ginger [wow]
Jerry Van Dyke was well and truly in line to play Gilligan

All male actors have passed away
The only 2 that are alive are Ginger and Maryanne

It was a wonderful show to watch as a kid

May I also add , a very good thread heading

2 stunners like that on a desert island with blokes, you'd think they'd be the first to go.
I could see Raquel Wlech as Ginger, but Maryanne?
They is little 'girl next door' in Raquel.

Now Mrs Howell.........I'll leave that to Bayman who prefers older women!  Very Happy

Jim Backus was probably in shedloads of movies, but he'll always be Mr Magoo to me.

On a more general note, its sad that there's not a lot of sitcom stars from the 60s still with us - in recent years actors like Don Adams, Larry Hagman, Werner Klemperer, Bob Denver,Fred McMurray, have all left us.

Not sure if the stars of The Addams Family and The Munsters - John Astin and Fred Gwynne - are still alive?

BOB DENVER
Played 2 different parts in shows of the 60's

As Gilligan in Gilligans Island he was the numbskull
As Maynard G Krebs [Dobie Gillis Show]he was a hazy fantazee groovertist
I think his naivenss as Gilligan ends up better than his heyyyy man Krebs part

The Cowsills... family group of the 60's - 70's.
Major hits... The Rain, the Park and Other Things.
Indian Lake.

Barbara C. Cowsill (née: Russell) (July 12, 1928 – January 31, 1985) Aged 56 years
The Cowsill family mother Barbara Cowsill died of emphysema while living in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Barry Steven Cowsill (September 14, 1954 – August 29, 2005) Aged 50 years

Both Barry Cowsill and his sister Susan were living in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck on August 29, 2005. Susan and her husband left New Orleans, but most of her belongings at her New Orleans home were destroyed.

A badly decomposed body recovered from the Chartres Street Wharf in New Orleans on December 28 was identified on January 4, 2006, as Barry. He had a piece of paper with his name and phone number in his pants pocket. The official cause of death is believed to be drowning as the New Orleans coroner found no signs of foul play.

Barry is survived by his two daughters, one son, and two grandsons, as well as a stepdaughter and two step-granddaughters.

William "Bill" Joseph Cowsill, Jr. (January 9, 1948 – February 18, 2006) Aged 58 years
Bill Cowsill died in Calgary, Alberta, on the day of his brother Barry's Newport memorial service. He had been in poor health for the last few years of his life, suffering from emphysema, Cushing syndrome and osteoporosis. He also struggled with heroin addiction.

COWSILS
What a band
The 2 songs mentioned by FB happen to be my 2 favorite Cowsils songs
Another is the iconic song Hair

My fav Cowsils album is a cheapie that can be found around the traps
The Cowsils In Concert
They do a stack of covers superbly

Some of the covers are
The Sunshine Of your Love [Cream]
Good Vibrations [Beach Boys]
Monday Monday[Mamas And The Papas]
Paperback Writer [Beatles]
Please, Mr Postman[Beatles]

LOVE AMERICAN STYLE
A comedy from the groovy gumdrop daze
Show started in 1969
The catchy theme of the show was first recorded by the Cowsils

DUMB AND DUMBER
This 1994 movie featured a Cowsils song The Rain, The Park and Other Things

The Cowsils, perhaps one of the most under-rated bands of all time

I loved there sound and have there greatest hits on vinyl. They are one of my all time favourite bands from the 60"s.

The Rain the Park and other things is my favourite of there's but they had many more.

I think the youngest in the band was the daughter and I am sure she is still alive playing with some band in the USA and they still play the songs that she was involved in with The Cowsills.

I saw her sitting in the rain, raindrops falling on her ..........................................Great memories
