cricketer & actor Sir Charles Aubrey Smith (played 1 test match), when visiting England he went to a test match at Lords......Decades after his cricket career had ended, when he had long been a famous face in films, Smith was spotted in the pavilion on a visit to Lord's. (take from wiki)

"That man over there seems familiar", remarked one member to another. "Yes", said the second, seemingly oblivious to his Hollywood fame, "Chap called Smith. Used to play for Sussex."[11] Laughing Laughing

If mumbles could open his mouth next time , perhaps we'd all be able to hear what he has to say , and then I could get my line in at the right time

A yarn told about Elizabeth Taylor
In reference to her co star Marlon Brando
On set in the movie Reflections In A Golden Eye

The part played by Brando was meant to be acted by Montgomery Clift
Clift died just before production
It has been reported that Taylor was devastated by this death

" She is the only woman that has ever turned me on."

Tallulah Bankhead.....clips from wiki

Bankhead was an avid baseball fan whose favorite team was the New York Giants This was evident in one of her famous quotes, through which she gave a nod to the arts: "There have been only two geniuses in the world, Willie Mays and Willie Shakespeare. But, darling, I think you'd better put Shakespeare first.

Sexuality and sexual exploits[edit]
An interview that Bankhead gave to Motion Picture magazine in 1932 created quite a commotion. In the interview, Bankhead ranted wildly about the state of her life and her views on love, marriage, and children:

"I'm serious about love. I'm damned serious about it now ... I haven't had an affair for six months. Six months! Too long ... If there's anything the matter with me now, it's not Hollywood or Hollywood's state of mind ... The matter with me is, I WANT A MAN! ... Six months is a long, long while. I WANT A MAN!"[36]

Time ran a story about it, and, back home, Bankhead's father and family were perturbed. Bankhead immediately telegraphed her father, vowing never to speak with a magazine reporter again. However, following the release of the Kinsey Reports, she was once quoted as stating, "I found no surprises in the Kinsey Report. The good doctor's clinical notes were old hat to me ... I've had many momentary love affairs. A lot of these impromptu romances have been climaxed in a fashion not generally condoned. I go into them impulsively. I scorn any notion of their permanence. I forget the fever associated with them when a new interest presents itself."[37]

In 1933, Bankhead nearly died following a five-hour emergency hysterectomy due to venereal disease. Only 70 pounds (32 kg) when she left the hospital, she stoically said to her doctor, "Don't think this has taught me a lesson!"[38]

Rumors about Bankhead's sex life have lingered for years, and she was linked romantically with many notable female personalities of the day, including Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, Eva Le Gallienne, Hattie McDaniel, and Alla Nazimova, as well as writer Mercedes de Acosta and singer Billie Holiday.[22] Actress Patsy Kelly claimed she had a sexual relationship with Bankhead when she worked for her as a personal assistant.[39] John Gruen's Menotti: A Biography notes an incident in which Jane Bowles chased Bankhead around Capricorn, Gian Carlo Menotti's and Samuel Barber's Mount Kisco estate, insisting that Bankhead needed to play the lesbian character Inès in Jean-Paul Sartre's No Exit (which Paul Bowles had recently translated), but Bankhead locked herself in the bathroom and kept insisting "That lesbian! I wouldn't know a thing about it."[40]

Bankhead never publicly described herself as being bisexual. She did, however, describe herself as "ambisextrous".

MI5 investigation of Eton school scandal[edit]
In 2000, declassified papers posthumously thrust Bankhead into the limelight of public scandal. She had been investigated by MI5 during the 1920s amid rumors she was corrupting pupils at Eton. The documents alleged that she seduced up to half a dozen private schoolboys into taking part in "indecent and unnatural" acts. This rumor had sent shockwaves through the 1920s British establishment.[45]

The documents compiled by the British Aliens and Immigration Department allege that the investigation was scuttled by a determined cover-up by Eton's headmaster, Dr. Cyril Argentine Alington. The allegations were based purely on gossip and word of mouth, and lacked credible evidence. It appears that they were assembled by MI5 at the urgings of a Home Office minister.[45]

here it is

Tallulah Bankhead and Chico Marx

Tallulah Bankhead had met Chico Marx at a party. Chico's friends had all advised him not to be the womanizing, brash, loudmouth personality that usually got him in with the ladies. He promised he wouldn't. And when he met her, all his friends were tense in how he would act with her. He said, good evening to her. And she said good evening to him. All his friends sighed in relief. Until... Chico turned to her abruptly and said, "I want to **** you!"

Without missing a beat, she replies, "And so you shall, you old-fashioned boy."

Mentioned is that Hattie Mcdaniel was one of Bankheads gals
McDaniel got a gig in the movie Gone With The Wind as a slave servant
Bankhead almost got the role of Scarlett Ohara in Gone With The Wind

Did anyone see the sequel of Gone With The Wind when Richmond played Port in that Adelaide Oval 2014 final?

" My first ambition in life was to become a financial tycoon
I was really serious about Wall Street
So serious that when I left high school I got myself a job as a runner for a Wall Street firm at 16 and a half dollars a week
I was always mad keen on fishing and when I'd saved up enough to buy a fishing rod I went on a trip
That trip cost me my job, because of it I broke my hand
So I thought about acting
I guess thats how it all started."

Screen Quotes and Quirks - Page 6 Empty Re: Screen Quotes and Quirks

Post by Scrappy Thu Apr 02, 2015 12:36 am

From the movie The Opposite sex [1956]
Joan Collins is trying to get her claws on June Allysons husband
They have a showdown in a dressing room
Joan is putting on  a slinky black dress
June Allyson starts off

" Just a bit of advice , if your dressing for Steven , not that one , he dosent like anything so obvious."

" Thank you, but when Steven dosent like what I wear, I take it off."

Classic comeback
One of the very best I have seen , and who better than Joan Collins

Allyson becomes infuriated then slaps Collins
Collins was meant to avoid contact by swaying back
But Allyson accidentally hit her flush in the face
Oops
The slap scene  was kept for the movie
Collins thought that the contact was for real and would not talk to Allyson for daze after
Slapstick ?

although not a comedy team at the time, Laurel & Hardy first appeared in a film titled 'The Lucky Dog'' in 1921

you can see the film from this & most likely on YouTube

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Laurel

the quote early in the film when Stan gets kicked out of home by his landlady was paraphrasing ''if you paid your rent i'd have enough to pay for the war effort''

ps, the main dog in the film must have been a very smart & friendly dog

worth watching in your spare time, interesting 'eye make up' by the actors & Stan in particular
