Screen Quotes and Quirks Empty Screen Quotes and Quirks

Post by Scrappy Tue Dec 10, 2013 11:00 am

I know we can't verify almost every writing or story to a hundred percent , true or false
But here goes
I will in advance apologize if I post any inaccuracies great or small

LANA TURNER
Blonde bombshell Lana Turner featured in 4 films with Clark Gable
Betrayed
Homecoming
Honky Tonk
Somewhere I'll Find You

Despite a sizeable age differential they have been said to have had a fling

Lana got her big chance to co star with  Gable
How did she prepare for the co star part ?
By getting photos of other women actresses and acquaintances linked with Gable and studying them

ROBERT MITCHAM
Caused his boss Howard Hughes a great deal of consternation
Mitchum did not want to shave his chest!
It was common back then for screen actors to have to shave their chests
Mitchum is documented to be one of the first to stay hairy for the screen
Mitcham is actually topless in a lot of his movies

PS
Body hair on screen was considered immoral at one time

" I love Johnny Depp and I love Colin Farrell , both brilliant , nuanced actors with great range."

By
Elizabeth Taylor
2011

" I wanted to be number 8 but we ran out of road."

By
Colin Farrell ,
Wanting to be her 8th hubby

Irishman Colin Farrell has revealed:
That he and Dizzy Ms Lizzy had an unconsummated affair
They both didn't sleep well and phoned each other for late night/early morning chats
Lizzy confirmed the relationship in 2011, shortly before she passed away

Colin's youngest son was being conceived at the same time Liz was in the same hospital , they met soon after , and thus started this unusual romance
Liz died in 2011 aged 79
Colin was 34 at the time of her death
The pluck of the Irish I say !

In the movie The New World [2005] Farrell romances Q'orianka Kilcher
This time it was Farrell about 29 years old and Kilcher about 14 years old.!!!!
The Gaul of the Irish I say !

What next ?
Will Colin seek out 103 year old actress Luise Rainer for romance ?

"I'd like to marry Elizabeth Taylor."

MARGARET DUMONT
She is remembered as the oldish proper lady in the Marx Brothers movie
What most people might not know was bald , had to wear hair pieces in those movies
Harpo enjoyed pinching her wigs

There's a couple of Dumont/Marx lines from the movies

Dumont :
Oh, I'm afraid after were married a while a beautiful young girl will come along and you will forget all about me.
Groucho Marx:
Don't be silly, I'll write you twice a week.

Grouhco Marx :
Why don't you marry me ?
Dumont:
Why, marry you?
Groucho Marx
You take me, and I'll take a vacation.
I'll need a vacation if we are going to get married
Married !
I can see you right now in the kitchen, bending over a hot stove
But I can't see the stove

Other women who were baldys were

Carol Channing

Ida Lupino  [did you know this Bayman ?]
Ida had diptheria just before WW1 , that was a cause of her hair loss
She wore wigs

Jack Lemmon presented Groucho with an honorary Academy Award in 1974, his final major public appearance, in which he received a standing ovation. Noticeably frail and sluggish, Groucho took a bow for his deceased brothers, saying, "I wish that Harpo and Chico could be here to share with me this great honor." He also wished that Margaret Dumont could have been present, adding that she was a great straight woman for him and that she never understood any of his jokes.[23] Groucho's final appearance was a brief sketch with George Burns in the Bob Hope television special Joys in 1976...................he also said ''she was practically the fifth Marx Brother

MOST ANNOYING WORD

A survey conducted in America 2013
The most annoying word is :
Whatever

Over 1,000 people were surveyed by the Marist Brothers Institute for Public Opinion
Whatever scored a whopping 38% disapproval rating

Whatever is  a word that's certainly part of the vocabulary of Australians
The one worded reply of whatever at times annoys me , I think it borders rudeness

Other annoyances were
You know
Just sayin'
Obviously

These groups of surveyists were given a choice of words
That explains the 38%

Reuters news reported that the Whatever saying really spurned after it was used in the movie Clueless[1995]

The status quo of all this is whatever you want whatever you need.

JOAN CRAWFORD
Screen make up does wonders for transparency
Joan's body and face were full of freckles

JOAN CRAWFORD + MARLENE DIETRICH
Both had back teeth removed to have the high cheekbone look
Fair dinkum, the cheek of some people

A GUY NAMED JOE [1943]

During filming of this flick, Van Johnson was involved in a motor bike accident
It was touch and go whether Johnson would survive

LB Mayer wanted to replace Johnson
Megastar Spencer Tracey convinced Mayer to wait for Johnson to come good
Mayer agreed on this proviso , that Tracey should stop hitting on co star Irene Dunne

History shows that the flick starred all three
Tracey left Dunne alone
Johnson recovered to star in the film

At that point Johnson's face was in one piece thanks to surgery
He had a steel plate inserted in his head
He had a forehead scar that was covered up by screen make up in consequent movies

As for the flick
I did see it a while ago
There is a scene were Johnson is dancing with Dunne
Side on Van Johnson looked a lot like cricketer Michael Clarke !

Audie Murphy is the other actor
The common denominator is they all served in wars

Ernest Borgnine was a US Navy Gunners Mate 1935-1945
He later served with great distinction in Mchales Navy
