The Ashes in Adelaide - Day One
Australia’s Bid to Claim Adelaide Oval
The build up to the Ashes has been huge, mainly for the reasons of Australia’s humiliation in the United Kingdom during July’s Ashes series.
The First Test at the ‘Gabba’ (Brisbane) excelled these frustrations for Australia, and tensions were mounting between the Australians and the Englishmen. There was no hint of this test being an old-fashioned gentleman’s game.
The locals in Adelaide have been building up our own ashes test. This is to be the first time the newly upgraded Adelaide Oval gets to shine.
Australia won the toss and chose to line up and bat first on the new pitch in front of a sold out crowd. It was the perfect setting to bid the claim Adelaide Oval as Australia’s Oval for the next five days.
The weather was not exactly perfect summer cricket weather. It is the Ashes, is anyone really thinking about the weather!
Early on within the first over the tension was felt. Anderson took his frustrations out on Chris Rogers early. The first over left everyone at 0.
One over down, and the rain came causing a rain delay early.
However typical Adelaide weather, the covers stayed on for less than five minutes.
David warner showed his clear intentions early, showing the English where the boundary line is, before getting out for a total of 29.
There was a solid partnership being built between Shane Watson and Chris Rogers. The 52nd over claimed our second victim, Watson dismissed for 51.
Rogers followed in the next over for 72.
This left Australia in a compromising position with 3/155 half an hour before the tea break and further possibilities of rain on day one.
Australia lost 3 wickets in the second session. the third session was a chance for George Bailey and Michael Clarke to steady the ship and build up a solid partnership. This was clearly an important session for the Australians.
Clarke and Bailey slowed down the pace and made use of singles, bringing a more defensive form of cricket to the centre of Adelaide Oval.
The Clarke/Bailey partnership was bought to a halt in the 86th over when Bailey was run out on a misjudged short ball.
Day one showed a mix of aggression, desperation and good old-fashioned classy cricket from both the Australian’s and the English.
The new drop in pitch at Adelaide Oval is definitely causing some talk amongst the cricketing world and its only stumps day one.
Results at stumps day one:
Australia 5/273.

IF you keep this up you will be the top dog in the cricket room
Great summary , welcome to TFSA
Michael CarBooBoorry dropped perhaps the dolliest catch of the series
Even Peter Russell Clark would have caught it
