Douglas will miss the Richmond clash after having his appendix removed in an emergency procedure on Monday night.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-08-04/t ... mond-clash
ADELAIDE midfielder Richard Douglas will not play against Richmond on Friday night after undergoing emergency surgery to remove his appendix.
The 28-year-old gathered 22 possessions against the Sydney Swans last Saturday night, but was rushed to hospital on Monday evening suffering appendicitis.
Surgeons removed Douglas’ inflamed appendix, ruling him out of the club's crucial encounter with the Tigers at Adelaide Oval on Friday night.
It's a cruel blow for the Crows, who will miss Douglas' running game.
They won contested possession against the Swans but were unable to generate enough quality outside in the 52-point loss./news/2015-08-04/top-crow-to-miss-richmond-clash

Will be missed for the Crows, is one of their best players, I would be surprised if it is just the single week that he is out after having that level of surgery?

this is an honest question & not trying to be silly after the Essendon saga & that is, is there a quarantined period for him (any player) to have a certain number of days off who has had an operation ? Because obviously drugs are used in operations

I highly doubt anaesthetic is a prohibited drug. Wouldn't the old "jab" in an ankle just be a local anaesthetic?

yeah, fair call (jab), i was thinking of other drugs that may be administered during an operation

Really interesting article by Emma Quayle in the Age today:
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/crows-quick-to-rise-from-draft-trauma-20150827-gj9j0l.html
Is there a better user of the rookie list and 2nd/3rd/4th round draft picks than Adelaide?
Gee they've found some gems over the journey that other Clubs seem to have completely overlooked:
- Josh Jenkins stolen from right under Essendon's nose
- Charlie Cameron
- Rory Laird
- Rory Atkins with a low draft pick
- Taylor Walker via NSW scholarship for pick 83 or something stupid like that
That's just a few examples I can think of off the top of my head.
Others in the past:
- Nathan Bassett
- Ben Rutten
- Michael Doughty
- Nathan Bock

Adelaide seem to be pretty active in re-signing a number of their list, I thought that i heard that Kyle Hartigan had also been given another contract.

According to the Advertiser, Adelaide must have given up on Dangerfield because he has been excluded from the 2016 Calendar?

Then again, a few years ago (Tippet I think) was in their calendar the year after he left. Can't really win in that situation when a calendar is produced with the season still going.
EDIT: just read that story and yeah it was Tippet

I heard on the radio that at the Geelong - Adelaide match over the weekend the Geelong supporters had a number of banners encouraging him to come home and were cheering him when he got the ball and when he had shots on goal. Clearly they are pretty passionate about getting him for next season. Would be interesting to see if Sportsbet have a market on it and what the odds are!

Whatever happens happens.
Obviously I want him to stay and I think it will set us back a good 2 or 3 years in our quest for a premiership if he goes - but it is what it is and successful clubs just get on with it.
Still think we're at least an even money chance of keeping him though.

surely one player is not worth a set back of 2 or 3 years no matter how good they are ?
if what i've heard & read over the last 6 months or so about ''playing in a premiership'' then right now while it irks me to say it, Adelaide would be more enticing than Geelong

Not the player so much, but the act of him leaving would be a blow for the rest of the group.
When a prominent player doesn't decide to buy in to what you are trying to achieve I think it can have a fairly significant effect on the group psyche.
For example, we were a kick away from a GF in 2012, and then a week later Tippett left and we've only just returned to finals 3 years later. Controversy aside, I think the act of him leaving had a profound effect on the rest of the playing group and shook the belief that they had in what they could achieve.

Disappointing if true Bayman but is there anything in particular driving the alleged request? And by northern do you mean Brisbane/GC?
