Re: Eagles all things 2021
People have a big belly ache about the Eagles recruiting heavily, but we have missed out on a lot of home grown talent eg Scott McMahon Tim and Byron Sumner, Malcolm Karpany, Cam Sutcliffe, Broadbent, Jacobs and now possibly Riley Knight.
I can't prove the Eagles are under the salary cap just as other posters can't prove they are over the salary cap. Let's leave it up to the SANFL.

EAGLES have recruited players to REPLACE those leaving (for whatever reason) this would leave the money more or less equal from season 2019
They've lost 3 players so far, and recruited 8.

Yes.
So you expect followers of other clubs to sit back, watch the Premier lose 3 players and recruit 8 and not question it?

Careful, there are some sensitive souls at the Eagles on here.
Questioning how to fit 5 quality players into half a salary cap will invite retribution.

bayman wrote:these threads are supposed to 'ALL THINGS' regarding the respective clubs, all i've read recently is trolling & whingeing....if ANY club breaks the salary cap deliberately they will eventually be caught
I am obviously a neutral fan & i know Glenelg have spoken to 4 players that signed with other clubs for whatever their reasons were, that's life.....now lets put this slanging match between predominately West & Eagles supporters to bed & PLEASE READ THIS PROPERLY
EAGLES have lost several players & will likely lose more to the draft.......that FREES UP MONEY/CONTRACTS & the NEED to replace them
EAGLES have recruited players to REPLACE those leaving (for whatever reason) this would leave the money more or less equal from season 2019
YES I KNOW THE CAP IS DIFFERENT TO PREVIOUS YEARS & THERE WAS NO PAYMENTS LAST YEAR
BUT THE FACT REMAINS IF PLAYERS LEAVE, THOSE PLAYERS HAVE TO BE REPLACED
I'VE RAMBLED ON BUT I THINK THE POINT HAS BEEN MADE
Word perfect. The club is being proactive...looking historically, after 1994, it was acknowledged (can't remember by who) in the "Best of Both Worlds" book that the club didn't do enough to replace players who were lost to the AFL/retirement whatever after 1993 and 1994. Hence the club fell to 8th in 1995. I'm certain the club knows it will in all likelihood be reamed by the draft this time around.

Re: Eagles all things 2021
There is no problem with replacing players and well done to the Eagles if they're able to do that.
This is a chat site and it's more than reasonable for fans to speculate how any club can fit several high profile recruits in a salary cap reduced by nearly 50%.
I'm sure the Eagles manage this within the rules, as do all clubs, but discussion about how it's possible is apt.

It could be said your attacking the disabled with that comment .
I could write a novel over partly disabled and state and federal government agencies arguing with the Feds decision
Just for the record I don’t drink booze of any type gave up cigarettes 26 years ago
Pity the old body doesn’t like it but it loves me losing 16 kilos in three months .
If you’d seen me Monday I’m told the gout medicine well anti inflammatory drug I was put on made me look like a white Walker
But I’m good if I actually posted what people tell me you may have a heat attack

Re: Eagles all things 2021
This all seems to have gotten way off the points at hand.
I have no idea what your health status has to do with the Eagles prospects, MJ.
But as an impartial observer to the West fans v Eagles fans tennis match being played, from my point of view it does seem reasonable to discuss how any club is fairing with the massive reduction in the cap. It must change the way they go about recruiting.
Some of the comments in jest in this thread, may have diminished the focus on this, but it is a relevant issue for everyone.
And as I said in a previous post, how has this cap reduction swung further against the 8 clubs compared to the 2 AFL clubs?
I agree with Lee, a points system would be worth considering now with so many variables occurring in the recruiting / player replacement mix.
The AFL's ever increasing ability to raid the sanfl's stocks whenever the mood takes them is the biggest issue here that unsettles a club's prospects, particularly during the season.
As for the Eagles, from my perspective, they seem to be getting more things right than wrong of late and seem to have a pretty solid list, irrespective of player losses.

What I said about my health while in jest to blacky is the truth . He can drink all the beer (I am however partly disabled fully assessed by Centrelink) if you offered me a cup of decent tea I’d take you up .
I have no idea how the Eagles do it but they do it by the book . And it might help the club president is an accountant .

He's playing for the love of the game.
As are all the other ex-AFL players.

Amazing the Eagles have signed another high class recruit in Knight and then you add Tsitas. I would like to see the contracts for these new recruits.

You forget Knight was an Eagle before he went into the AFL.
Eagles don’t have a good record bringing them home .
I’d love to see the difference in the Menzel’s contract at Elizabeth and at oval ave if my contacts are right they are playing for less money

Do you think the SANFL wouldn’t be aware of everything ?
Perhaps your chasing things that don’t exist.
Let’s not forget 2020 the salary cap was zero and in 2021 it’s $210’000.
Do you wish to check on Norwood for signing an ex AFL player returning home ?
Just wondering do you only worry about one team getting recruits ?
