Power rankings 2019
With a bit more spare time now , I thought I'd try to do a weekly ranking of how I see teams travelling, not necessarily as per the premiership table.
Disagree below!
- Norwood - Grand finalists, Mitch Grigg retained, seasoned list, have to be up there, but still have to prove themselves.
Eagles - appear to have recruited well. Depends on how quickly they adapt to the new coach
Port - Should start with a strong list, injuries will determine their position, but fit and healthy right now.
Adelaide - Ditto. Adelaide and Port could be put nearly anywhere on this list.
Glenelg - Look big improvers on paper, looked a bit top-heavy in the trial I saw
North - Lost a lot, start 2 games behind, but still plenty of talent and well coached.
Sturt - Have doubts whether they'll improve much at this stage.
West - Recruited well, trial game form reasonable.
South - Smashed losing Brooksby and the new recruit to the draft and AFL manipulation. Will give 100% effort.
Central - Menzel is a star, but big losses to cover and may bottom out. (Sorry, Phil).

After Round 2:
1 Norwood (last week 1)
Got the job done against Glenelg eventually, but not overly impressive by all counts. Still the team to beat.
2 Eagles (2)
Gutsy win under difficulties. Found a player with Foote skills, Injuries took some gloss off, but a great start.
3 Port (3)
Fit, healthy, did the job with superior AFL fitness. Trengove starred.
4 Adelaide (4)
See Port.
5 South (9)
Smashed an ordinary Central side, with their stars firing. 3 votes (South Adelaide) J Cross.
6 Glenelg (5)
Fair effort in running Norwood close on their ground. Better times ahead.
7 North (6)
Ran the Eagles close, but a bit disappointing first up effort. Stay at -4.
8 Sturt (7)
Bit stiff to drop a spot after a good effort for three quarters against the Crows.
9 West (
Bit stiff to drop a spot after a good effort for 3 and a half quarters against the Power, sorry, Magpies. (I think)
10 Central (10)
Awful.

After Round 2:
1 South (Last week 5).
Can't do any better than 2 big wins and are flying. Can they maintain it?
2 Norwood (1)
One bad quarter, but 2 from 2. Lewis joining Grigg and Panos is scary.
3 Glenelg (6)
Very impressive downing a poor Adelaide. Strong at both ends of the ground.
4 Sturt (
Always hard to beat at home, which is why I tipped them
5 Eagles (2)
Always hard to beat Sturt at Unley, which is why I didn't tip them.
North (7)
Too strong for the Bloods and starting to look more like 2018.
7 Port (3)
Ordinary performance, an injury or two, perhaps not going to get much stronger.
8 Adelaide (4)
Putrid outing against a strong Bays outfit. Injuries already mounting.
9 Central (10)
Had a lock on No 10 here, but last quarter showed character.
10 West (9)
Form not terrible, been in winning position both games, but lack firepower.
Doing this as a talking point, have a say.

Re: Power rankings 2019
"Lee" I don't like to be too critical of you, but your reasoning to select the Blues against the Eagles is erroneous. The Eagles had won the last eleven straight against the Blues at Unley Oval, it seems to suit our style of play. One reason for the Eagles loss on Saturday was the lack of top 21 players to choose from. Out: Toumpas, Lonergan, Nick Hayes, Giuffreda, Sharrad, Giulhaus, Firns, Tom Gray and Schmusch. We just lacked a bit of class and grunt.

Thanks Feathers, feel free to be critical.
In fact, you're quite right. They were amongst the very facts that made me select Sturt
(on the other hand, I didn't know that stat - glad I didn't!

Law of averages, the loss had to happen sometime.
