I've got a 'smokey' for that who will be very, very hard to beat.
Hold the thought!
Patience Grasshopper, we'll get there!
Ok Sorry I've been dragging my heels on #26. (Been setting up tents on holiday).
Simon Feast (St)
Bruce Light (PA)
Chris Duthy (G)
Malcolm Greenslade (St)
Greg Anderson (PA)
Ruory Kirkby (G)
2 from each of 3 teams, but there must be plenty of others.
Here's one for you.
Feast or Greenslade?
Or at least across the same position, Light or Anderson?

Damien Arnold was a pretty handy ruckman for the Bulldogs, that wore number 26 for a while.
I know he also wore number 5 as well, but not sure in how many games?
Arnie was a member of 3 senior Premierships, played 181 league games and was a very athletic, around the ground ruckman in his time.
Luke Cowan, an enigmatic CHF, also played in a trifecta of flags for the Dogs in number 26, from 113 games.

Luke Cowan could be devastating on his day, such a difficult matchup. A shame for Dogs fans they didn't get to see a longer career from him, a relief to opposition fans though

Yeah, he had a real X Factor about him but was way too inconsistent. Only really ever took a dozen games by the scruff of the neck and dominated.
I remember he set the tone in the first term of the 2004 Grand Final with a couple of pack-bursting marks. Was a real larrikin off the field, as well.

Scrunch, was it a couple of handy defenders that wore 26 for the Redlegs?
Both named Steven / Stephen...
Pitt and Daniels.

Are you sure about Daniels BP? NFC site has him in a bunch of other numbers but not 26.

No, not sure on Daniels, mate.
Was he 27, perhaps?

Re: Your Best by the Numbers.
Gary Sporn was an outstanding ruckman in North's 1971-1972 premierships.
Greenslade was a much better player than Feast. 9 goals inthe 1969 Grand Final and 6 goals in the wet in 1970 were outstanding efforts when the SANFL was at its peak.

Re: Your Best by the Numbers.
The contenders from West would be:
Trevor Barker, 61 Premiership player, Seven Miller and the vastly under-rated Chris Chubb, a B & F winner playing full back all year.
As good as they were, the best would come from the Port and Sturt players on Chambo's list.
More input from Eagles, South and Glenelg supporters would be good.

The "Snake" Pitt had plenty of ability, unfortunately Long with a few others at the time, he didn't play as long as most Norwood supporters would have hoped. I'm struggling to remember Stevie Daniels number but I don't think it was 26

I remember Sporn RR.
Probably around in the heyday of my teenage fixation with footy in the 70s.
Why only about 80 games for him do you think?

Damien Nygaard also wore 26 for Norwood. He also wore one from Neil Kerley at the Parade that I remember well.
And back on 27, Craig McKellar wore it for the Peckers.

He didn't come to the SANFL until he was about 27. Being from just across the border in Murrayville he had been sought after by both VFL and SANFL clubs for many years but preferred the country life. I think that he trained with VFL clubs and certainly trained with West Adelaide in about 1964 but couldn't settle in the city. By the time he came to the city he was married and both Kieran and Rachel had been born by then so his circumstances had changed. Until Mick Redden came along I think he was the best ruckman I saw play for North Adelaide.

I was wondering if there was a connection with the 2 you mentioned. I guess that's about as close a connection you can get.

Re: Your Best by the Numbers.
OK got some good names on #26. Cheers to those contributors.
Getting in early for tomorrow on #25 as I may be out and about.
Mick Nunan (St) .....Grrrrr!
Danny Hughes (PA)
Alan Stringer (G)
Duncan Fosdike (N)
Scott Sutherland (NA)
Phil Brooksby (SA)
Kym Cobb (SA)
Couple of handy players in there.
Oh! and there's one from a "Western" club who wasn't too bad either.
I'll let others post that player and maybe a short bio of his achievements?
Something I doubt we'll ever see again in terms of debut.

Greeny had quite an incredible career up until a bloke by the name of Whelan came along. Greeny was relegated (unfortunate term) to HB and eventually couldn't cement a regular spot. Moved to the Bays for a few years. Was a school teacher from memory.
If he had managed to remain at the Blues and in his former goalkicking form, I reckon he would have easily topped the highest goalkicker at the club. A record now held by my avatar, Brant Chambers. (And before that formerly by the Jumbo Prince, Rick Davies).
As for Feast, yes I would probably agree Greeny was better in a time that was about as hard as the sanfl was chocked solid with great players in the late 60s / early 70s. But in the time Feasty played for Sturt (mid 90s onward) he was just about our most important player during the years we contended for flags (98,02) in that period.

I'll also leave it to others to follow that one up.
Some from West - 'Melbourne Jack' Richardson, Ed Richardson and Glenn Goss, a tough man.

I met 'Melbourne Jack' Richardson in the Sturt Arcade Hotel in the city not long before his tragic death. Quite a character.
Was Glen Goss tough or was he just plain dirty?

Gilbert McAdam's performance in a game against West at Richmond the year he won the medal was astonishing. I can remember thinking at the time he was one of the most talented players I had ever seen.

At North Mike Patterson, Peter Cloke and Matthew Campbell wore 25 with distinction.
