Dick Jones
Hi Spelly,
i never knew this, presuming it is true, but it has come to my attention that Dick Jones spent a year or two at Glenelg in the early 1950's......can this be verified ?
for those of my vintage will remember Dick as a commentator with a very distinctive voice

Was he the coach who dragged Bob Hank in his last game?

That alone makes him an average bloke, but I always thought he was up himself on TV anyway.
Not fit to tie up Bob Hank's bootlaces.

Re: Dick Jones
Dick was one of my favorite radio commentators
They had a round the ground segment getting scores at each venue
One day they crossed to Dick
A studio commentator asked Dick about the crowd numbers
Dick responded with
" Ive seen more people at a scene of an accident."

Dick was a cop, not a vulture that hovers around & watches accidents & the like & i had forgotten about that quote & i have a feeling Dick used to work for bookmakers at one time, does anyone know (if true) about his 'stint' at Glenelg ?

Re: Dick Jones
He played for South Melbourne from 1949-1951 and had one season at the Bays in 1952.
He was appointed captain coach of West Torrens from 1957 -1958. He retired as a player at the end of 1957 and stayed on as there coach for season 1958, this was when he did the dirty on the great Bob Hank.
