if you ''read between the lines'' i think it is one bloke mainly that doesn't get on well with Dammarrell, i stand corrected but his namesake co starred with Fred Gwynne in the hit show 'The Munsters'....there is also some negotiations about % paid which the dogs & races quickly agreed to terms

the betezy idea was what i thought as well

Would that be Al Lewis?

R8-2 Pernell Roberts looks a good thing !!!

Pernell Roberts only wins by half a length, half the length of the straight !
No bonanza dividend, it paid $1-20

Al ''LEWIS'' yes who wasn't sited tonight & would you believe that Ashley working in the front office wasn't even told, he didn't even know there wasn't going to be a bookie now that's communication, this friction was confirmed by a few 'sources' tonight

Its final, no permanent Bookmakers at Globe Derby Trots
Lone applicant Peter Dammerell, and the Club , have not reached on a compromise

In the halycon days of 1973 we had almost 50 bookmakers at Globe Derby

The irony of this that , if the current trend continues , for future meetings we have :
3 Bookies at Victor Harbor
1 Bookie at Kapunda
2 bookies at Mt Gambier [tonight] prob 1 Bookie most meetings ?
1 Bookie at Port Pirie
0 Bookies at Globe Derby

Will be interesting to see the on course Globe Derby TAB holdings
I think it will be OK in the short term, but what happens when winter sets in ?

its so sad that its actually quite funny! Very Happy

yes, lets not have a bookie on course - who does attract a few people to the course because there are mistakes that are made that need to be pounced on!

lets just run a tote, no bookie for the punters on course to compare with

lets FORCE serious punters to stay at home

in the comfort of airconditioning (in summer) and in winter the comfort of heating.
without the battles of traffic and going out in the heat or the miserable weather in winter.
Forcing punters to now open up accounts with corporates and betfair to get the best odds possible (if they hadnt already)

I would suggest the holdings for GDP will decline. I would assume that the bookie lays off to some degree on the tote which would help turnover.

SURELY it would be in the best interests of the CLUB to have a bookie on-course. I would assume that in Dammerells situation he probably isnt too fussed not to be fielding, but i do stand corrected.

the trots market share has fallen away considerably to be the third behind the gallops and the dogs, surely this will just add more nails to the coffin of what is a very enjoyable night out.

if both the racing & chasing codes can reach an agreement for all concern why can't the harness code ? talking to people at the track the common theme is that there is a personality clash between 2 people that simply do not like each other, Scrappy without causing you any grief there was 2 bookies at Kapunda last week & has been 2 since Kapunda re started some 4 or 5 years ago Wink

The only bookies at the races these days are in the members only and it has been that way for a while now.

Sadly Globe Derby seems to have lost the only one who was willing to show up each Saturday night. Crying or Very sad

Hey Bayman
Can this all up bet win Saturday Night at Globe Derby ?

R5-3 Lorne Greene
R6-7 Pernell Roberts

I think Lorne Greene might Landon in front
And both HOrSSes should win

Port Pirie trots 9/9/2016

The horses racing in races 2 + 3 will also back up the same meeting
They will all [unless scratched] race later on the meeting in races 7+8
Same horses but different barrier draws

it happens in Melbourne too, i believe it is to get an 8 race program rather than a 6 race program, there is a point scoring system & the highest point scorer gets an extra grand, however some horses will thrive on it & others won't, some of the smarter drivers may be tempted to nurse their horses & try to accumulate points........now mind you it is better to get a meeting up rather than no meeting at all like last Friday night

Dual Race Series at Pirie a huge success!

13 September 2016
by Graham Fischer
Logo

The decision by the Port Pirie Harness Racing Club to run a dual race series last Friday night has been declared a huge success.

Former trainer Peter Lawrence, now a member of the Racing Department of Harness Racing South Australia, said all industry participants he had spoken with had been positive about the concept.

Neville Thomson, secretary/manager of the Port Pirie Harness Racing Club said he had received nothing but positive feedback.

During the ‘off’ season of harness racing in South Australia Mr Thomson took on an idea from the Maryborough Harness Racing Club in Victoria to run two rounds heats of a class during a meeting ensuring the club had two races on its program.

Such was the response to the club’s R1 to R2 race that the club was in fact able to run four races.
As the races were over 1609 metres, there was no extreme hardship on the horses and veterinary surgeons checked every post and pre-race.

The top points scorer from the heats would receive a $1000 bonus, second a $300 bonus and the third $200. That was in addition to any prizemoney won.

Results from the night ended with equal top points scorers with Toby Ryan’s Solanum Dulcamara and Itz Sportz Torque, trained by Ryan Hryhorec each winning one round and finishing second in the other collecting 21 points so the first and second bonuses were added together so the trainers each took $650.
Ryan also had Melegend run second in two heats earning 20 points and collecting the $200 bonus for third.
In another iniaitive, at its next meeting on Friday, September 23, the Port Pirie club will run a dual race series heats for C1 to C2 horses over 1609 metres with one heat at the beginning of the program and the second at the end of the night.

The top points scorers will qualify for a $5500 final at the club’s meeting on Friday, September 30.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

not sure it was that big a success as all of the big punters i know didn't bet on their respective second races....however i believe with the lack of horses around at the moment this idea will likely happen again this week & in the next few weeks to come
