Has to last that long.I know give him a chance Bundy yeah yeah.wolves wrote:I believe you should always play to win and winning form is good form and habit forming.
Rubbers better have a good 2nd half to the year because he inherited a side that has made finals to years in a row - I dont accept excuses like injury. He has 2 years and if we fail to make finals, he will be held accountable

Just looking at the stats last night - 13 debutantes out of 22 players and probably should have stole a win... Looking a positives which I guess ow the emotion is over, Tom Carter was accountable in ruck, Jack Agostino - like his clean skills and ball use. Kirk took two of the best marks I have seen for our club this year too!

I managed to catch almost the entire 2nd half last night and to be honest I found the game entertaining enough to watch. I think both clubs were seriously putting in and wanted to win badly enough, and that always makes for a good contest. Sure there was bad skill errors from both sides, but I didn't think the commitment of either could be questioned from what I'd seen.

I agree scrunch - the players cant be called into question for their efforts - Just thought maybe two slightly more experienced players would have been enough - Shame silverlock and middleton were ruled out late

The second half was a good contest and entertaining, but I thought West's first half was deplorable and some of the defensive efforts bordered on the comical at times.
There were some good efforts, though. Carter in ruck, Jennings, Schott, the highly promising Agostino, while Ryan Dijksman was probably B.O.G.
Good to see likely top ten draft pick Sam Durdin back too.
In the end, West hit the post late and missed other shots for goal, kicking 1.5 to nothing in the last quarter.

There goes my theory about Westies Reserves being better than the Storm!

Re: Foxtel Cup 2014
I think some Westies fans made too big a deal of it last year. There was even one comment along the lines of West being the undisputed best team outside of the AFL, when they were nowhere near the best two in their own state, let alone elsewhere. Not meant as a slant at West - Im stoked they scored some good $$ at a time when it was most welcome . At the same time, Norwood were berated for fielding a weaker team (one that would have destroyed West's this week - And their best from last year) and not taking the competition seriously. Some people have to decide which side of the fence they wish to sit on in regard to the competitions.

Re: Foxtel Cup 2014
I've always supported the competition and last year's win was a big morale boost for a team that hadn't achieved much success for a long time, as well as raking in $100K which made a huge difference to a financially struggling club.
West should still have won the game the other night, but fans would have been disappointed in seeing such an inexperienced line-up, when just 2 or 3 more senior players would have probably guaranteed a win.
On the other hand, from a coach's point of view, we're 0-4, with a vital game coming up where a loss might already destroy our season, the promised Foxtel Cup bye wasn't granted and we have a number of players coming back from injury.
It was no doubt a pragmatic decision. Sunday's result will probably tell whether it was a good call.
Finally, I suspect the AFL wouldn't be rapt with sub-standard sides being selected by a few clubs in the Foxtel Cup competition.

Re: Foxtel Cup 2014
I think the competition needs to be round-robin format:
-2 groups with 1 team each from SA, Vic, WA
-Remaining leagues fill up group; Tas & Qld in 1 group, NSW & NT in other group
-Eg. Group 1: Norwood, Williamstown, South Fremantle, Western Storm, Southport/Group 2: West Adelaide, Frankston, West Perth, Sydney Hills, St Marys
-Winner of each group play-off in Grand Final
-$250,000 to winner, $100,000 to runner up
Guaranteed 4 games for each club and clubs have chance to redeem themselves after a loss, cover for injuries etc.

Regardless of how West fare against Central I think your club made the right call. The SANFL competition is what each club will live or die by and should always be the number 1 focus.

Re: Foxtel Cup 2014
No excuses needed, West fielded a B Grade side looking forward to this weeks much more important game against The Dogs. Any club looking at 3 games in 8 days would do the same.

This years Foxtel cup was won by Williamstown.
They thrashed West Perth 10-11 to 1-2. The second cup in a row for coach Andy Collins
