Chambo, run for the SFC board - This is one of my goals running for WAFC board > I have a five year goal - If enough of us purists can run for different SANFL clubs, we can get things overturned

Hadn't thought about that, but I will think about it.

You'd be great for the Blues - You have theirs (Sturts) and the true SANFL spirit at heart

It's an interesting question and at this stage I don't think anyone knows if it's good or not.
Time will tell, I suppose.

I'm more surprised South said yes to be honest.

I did not think South would have been party to that happening, maybe now with an AFL style coach, nothing is going to surprise how much each club bends over backwards.

I almost liken this "top up player idea" to sides having scratch matches where the captain's pick the teams.
That just affirms the fiasco that it is and why any club would further entrench a bad idea by agreeing to providing players is beyond me. I'm not sure who has said yes and who has said no - doesn't really matter, but the whole concept cheapens the league further.
And to be honest, I would now rather Port play in a Power jumper (something I was never for) just so what we see is what they really are. For Magpies they are not.

As a supporter personally I think Norwood should be involved. We voted yet to bring them in, I don't have a real problem with the concept. It will be interesting at this stage I don't think the Crows are too fussed who plays for them but I suspect over time that might change.

Hypothetical]
All clubs agree to give top up players to the Crows reserves.
Who selects the players the Crows get?
Is it the Crows get to choose who they want?
Or is it the club give the crows who they think need more commitment, or do they give them the last 6 selected in their reserves?

I think the SANFL clubs nominate the players they would be happy to go to the Crows. I think.

I think these players train and play for the Crows in 6 week blocks.
I'd also think the coaches who agree would think a few of their Reserves players would benefit greatly from the experience.

Re: Adelaide FC Reserves
I think many coaches would be happy for their reserves players go for the 6 weeks.
Do not think coaches would be happy with 1/3rd of their squad leaving at some stage through the season, and i am sure the supporters and spectators would not be happy either. I could imagine that at some crucial part of the season you would not want to lose the backbone or support structure of your players, to play against you and possibly put your side out of finals contention.
All this has to be sorted out before the season begins for points.
Just makes another mockery of the game.
I was all for the Crows and Power to have teams in the SANFL, however it looks like it is going to be a shambles.

off course it will be ''shambles'', was always going to be when they don't have enough players to cover two teams, anyway i think you'll find the ''top up players'' will be players like fringe reserve & u/18 players & perhaps the odd ''basketball type''

The Prowler, clubs will only need to supply one or two players for a six week block and those players can't play against their home club.

Is the SANFL a competition for points, or now just a development league?
I think I know the answer - rhetorical question.

Spot on Chambo, I cannot nor ever will fathom the silly idea that any club in the SANFL (including mine ) will give the cows players to help them out. What will they want next. Lets all just wait and see.Chambo Off To Work We Go wrote:....reinforcing the feel of a "scratch match" approach.redandblack wrote:The Prowler, clubs will only need to supply one or two players for a six week block and those players can't play against their home club.

Soders just mentioned on Channel 7 News that they believe the Crows Reserves will start their season with a game against North Adelaide at Prospect on Sunday April 6th.

i would have thought they would have no Sunday games at all, only because if their first 22 are due to play on Friday or Saturday the next week, they wouldn't want a player who may come into that team with a shorter break

So presumably for the first two weeks of the AFL season it doesn't matter that their players who don't make the senior side are getting no games at all.Big Phil wrote:Soders just mentioned on Channel 7 News that they believe the Crows Reserves will start their season with a game against North Adelaide at Prospect on Sunday April 6th.
