Sturt 2013 - So Far...
Have added up the qtr by qtr scores of Sturt's 3 games this season against Eagles, Port and North.
At qtr time Sturt 10-11 lead their opponents 6-13.
At half time Sturt 30-14 lead their opponents 15-25.
How good is that by the Double Blues? Straight shooting for goal coupled with shocking inaccuracy by their opponents indicative of a Sturt defence applying good pressure on the opposition forwards.
At 3 qtr time Sturt 38-18 still lead the opposition 30-39.
Final scores Sturt 47-22 beaten by the opposition 51-44.
In 3 "second halves" of footy Sturt have scored just 17-8 whilst conceding 36-19. Just 25 scoring shots after half time compared to 55.
Sturt appear to be one class defender short noting that in each game the opposition have had a stand out goalkicker - Ainger 4, Johncock 7 and Johnston 7.
Any solution for Sturt's 2nd half woes?

Welcome, Bugsy and you make a good point. I've seen Sturt in a trial, against the Eagles and again yesterday.
In my 'Momentum Table' I've kept them higher than many think they should be, but I rate their best footy.
I think you're right, though, they seem to be missing a key defender.

Re: Sturt 2013 - So Far...
Looking at the two Sturt games I've seen this year (I missed the night game against Port) I'm not so concerned about our defensive manpower. Rather it's the fact that we're allowing opposing midfielders to get into open spaces too easily. We're focusing on an attacking game style and this is the way to go IMO. We've kicked 47 goals in 3 games to date, but we've only got 1 win to show for it. Seamus has pinpointed our failure to transition from attack to defence when the ball is turned over, as a major issue we're working on. This was very obviously a problem yesterday. North players were running unchecked into spaces through the midfield, to receive the ball and set up their key forwards, far too easily. When you have this situation the set defenders are always on a hiding to nothing. Fraser Evans is a very good player, but with the ball coming into Johnston lace out the way it was yesterday, there was very little he could do about it. Certainly we could do with an extra tall at both ends of the ground, but at this stage we need to work harder on the things we can control with the players we've got.

Sturts best is very very good, defineately top 5 material, however to me they either have a fitness problem or a concentration problem & don't run out matches

When you work out how to fix the problem above, let me know. I have the exact same problem with the hockey team that I'm coaching this year. Love to attack, but we get punished easily and often when we turn the ball over, and it's doing my bloody head in!

Done an update to include Round 4's poor 3rd qtr against South.
Qtr time Sturt 14-12 lead the opposition 10-14.
Half time Sturt 37-18 lead the opposition 24-29.
3 qtr time Sturt 48-25 trail the opposition 47-46.
Final scores Sturt 60-32 have lost to the opposition 69-55.
The 4 "second halves" of footy now show Sturt 23-14 against 45-26.
Yet again Sturt had trouble with a key forward - this time Wundke kicked 5 for South.
McLeay - hurry up and come back !!

This is becoming a rather embarrassing thread for Sturt fans but easier to update each week as the template remains the same..
