Daryl Cullinan was on his way to the cricket
Shane Warne told him he had been waiting 2 years to humiliate him again

"Looks like you spent it eating " Cullinan replied

" It is also a disgrace that the West Indies were allowed to drag the over rate down to 12 or 13 an hour
Its easy to keep 4 fast bowlers fresh when each is bowling a maximum of 6 overs an hour
When Brian Statham and myself opened for England we rarely dropped below 16 or 17 overs per hour though we were just as fast and our run ups were long
We gave the paying public value for money ."

As an 8 year old, I saw Freddy playing for England at the Adelaide Oval in 1962-63. My greatest memory of him isn't of his bowling, but the pantomime he performed at Deep Fine Leg as a 21 gun salute went off at the Torrens Parade ground. He was waving a white handkerchief to surrender before rolling on the ground pretending to be shot. The crowd seemed to think it was hilarious at the time. I remember seeing him get his 300th test wicket, Neil Hawke, on TV highlights in 1964. He was the first bowler to achieve that milestone. His victim, Hawke, was the first to congratulate him. The other highlight I remember seeing on TV as a 9 year old in 1964 was Trueman running out one of the Australian batsmen, maybe Brian Booth, from short leg in one of the early tests. The remarkable thing was that Trueman threw down the stumps with his left hand, even though he was right handed.

" The worst fielding side Ive ever been in. It was a total disaster. I could never have believed that any side I was in charge of could be so inept."

Graham Gooch
Australia v England 1990-1991 Test Series
Australia won 3-0

I cant understand what Gooch was on about
England fielded 3 excellent fieldsmen in this series !!!
Eddie Hemmings
Devon Malcolm
Phillip Tuffnell
Gooch had the luxury of all 3 in the one team in the 3rd Test of that series!

Can anyone remember in the 1980s when a pig ran out on the field with Hemmings name written on the pig ?
No disrespect to Eddie, but he is not film starish looking ala David Hemmings , and it was very funny seeing this happen

Heres another quote from the times
" The good thing about his bowling is that when hes doing it hes not fielding."
By
Ian Chappell
In reference to Phillip Tuffnell

After watching the Aussies bat, my impression that they are so low in the T20 rankings is that they cannot bat with flair in having a go at it often enough. So many are nudged and prodded to fielders when there are openings everywhere.

They looked like they surrendered tamely in the last 4 to 5 overs, despite a couple of lofty blows.

They just seem to play much too safe and within a formula and it was the same against Sri Lanka a few weeks ago.

Viv Richards hit 4 boundarys in a row of Merv Hughes
Merv stopped half way down the pitch
And farted loudly , and says to Viv

" Lets see you hit that to the boundary."

Reckon he is right.
Players in these formative years, don't seem to get enough cricket grounding in how to build an innings. I think the 3 forms of the are a blur to them at the moment that they have trouble in separating.

Merv Hughes and Viv Richards in a test match in the West Indies

Merv didnt say a word to Viv, but continued to stare at him after deliveries
Viv says to Merv :
"This is my island, my culture. Dont be staring at me. In my culture we just bowl."'
Merv didnt reply , but after dismissing Viv , retorted :
" In my culture we just say f..k off."

I dunno
Maybe its that tally ho lads attitude
You know, there'll always be an England and all that empire crap they dish out
But I never could cop Poms...generally speaking, that is.
As soon as they lobbed here in 1974 , I couldn't wait to have a crack at them.
I thought

As a 14 year old I played against men in Adelaide Turf cricket
My skipper was a nice man, who encouraged me , and was a great influence in my career.

I mainly batted 8 9 10 Jack in the batting order
I bowled a variation of spin leggies, offies, wronguns, toppies, doosras[yes I had a doosra ball b4 it was fashionable]
I took plenty of wickets in my first season, but could not make runs
In schoolboy cricket it was the opposite , I could bat well, but underachieved with the ball.

After each batting failure the skipper would invariably say bad luck and other encouraging things
He would nearly always say something like
" Don't worry about it, at least your a good looking batsman."

Towards the end of the season I asked him
" You keep calling me a good looking batsman, but I never make runs."

His reply was something like this:
" You are a good looking batsman , the other blokes girlfriends and wives think your a cute kid."

This is a dinkum story
The skip was taking the pizz outa me, I and I believed him !
