Re: Where to buy Music in Adelaide
Found a beaut place over here in Sheffield out of all places. Little dingy shop, but their records for sale are amazing!
Went there last week to pick up:
The Who - Tommy and Quadrophenia
John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band - Live in Toronto with Eric Clapton
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced?
Bruce Springsteen - Darkness On The Edge of Town
It cost me a little I might add, but pleasantly not what I've seen some others pay! And I could have bought more if I wasn't sensible!!

Re: Where to buy Music in Adelaide
Ive not seen the Who Quadrophenia album
The movie was a gas
A couple of notables in the film were Sting and Leslie Ash [the vivacious blonde in Men Behaving Badly]
Howthewestwaswon
John Lennon/PO Band is an interesting album
Is it the Live Peace in Toronto 1969 Album ?
I reckon I saw this one at a fair once
If it is it is a fairly expensive album , I think it was being sold for about $30- $40

Yes Scrappy, it is. I paid my $35 for it, but it is in absolute mint condition. I don't even think it's been played. Mind you, I think 35 quid is cheap compared to some of my other albums!
I find fairs are set up to make money, therefore harder to negotiate with dealers, but I have found many dealers who have their own stores in and around Adelaide pretty reasonable to deal with. I had a place in the CBD in Synagogue Place where I bought many of my albums before leaving Adelaide. Many bulk purchases were often made as I'd get discounted prices for trying to buy out their shop!

I remember the place in the CBD at Synagogue Place.
He was great and I have spent many hours and $$$ browsing through the records there.
Some record people in Adelaide will negotiate but Im finding it is getting harder. Some may just "round" up the price say from $16 to $15.
Maybe Im just not good at bartering with them.
I have most of Bruce Springsteen on vinyl HTWWW.
One of my favorite records is actually a solo album from his guitar player Steven Van Zandt called 'Voice of America" from 1984. I absolutely love it and have a mint copy on vinyl which I have burnt onto my MP3 player. Highly recommend it. Very Political but it is such a fine underated record

All the records are in great condition and most are still in plastic covers...
1 x Rod Stewart, Album "Rockin'
1 x Randy Edelman, Album "Farewell Fairbanks"
1 x 1927, Album "...iSH"
1 x Berlin, Album "Count to three and pray"
1 x Kym Wilde. Album "You keep me hanging on" Extended club mix
2 x Sade, Albums "Diamond Life" + "Promise"
1 x Shirley Bassey, Album "Geatest hits"
1 x Sammy Davis Jr, Album "Sammy"
7 x Frank Sinatra, Albums "Greatest Hits" + Various other albums
And your gonna love this one...
1 x Liberache, Album "The Great Liberace" double album.
Thanks for the albums
Sade
I must say the Diamonds Life was unexpected treat
I had not realised Helen Adu was such a brilliant singer
The song Smooth Operator is a gem , and some of the other tracks were excellent
Rod Stewart
Very good album
Rods classic Maggie May the highlight
First Blood has also given me some other albums
Included are Bon Jovi , REO Speedwagon, Meat Loaf
The pick of the extras was
The Cars Greatest Hits
Scored some good albums , and in return First Blood only got a couple of cricket and football books from me
Seems an unfair trade, so to be fair, the next time West Adelaide kicks 20 + goals against Norwood, I will find another 2 books for him

The Liberace album brings back memories
In 1991 , I stayed in Las Vegas
Whilst there I visited the Liberace Museum
I recall seeing his quite amazingly bizzare clothes that he used to wear
He remains on organ player of repute
I dont mind his music , deserves better than the bin , or its available prolificness in Op shops
More to the point, Ive played all the albums, bar the 8 Frank Sinatra Albums
Now Frank is a great old crooner
Im a fan of his acting and his singing
When I have the time I will listen to all the Blue Eye albums , enjoy, relax, and listen to them my way

Here is the killer.....
I have in my (record) collection a Jim Nabors, Nana Mouskouri, several Kamahl and early Barbra Streisand among other notable forgettables.
Ok, I know it sounds cheesy, but yes they were given to me.
Happy to donate if anyone has an inkling for such musical icons.
Chambo $10 for the lot, take it or leave it
The money should cover my petrol expenses

Re: Where to buy Music in Adelaide
I always thought it was Sinatra who sang the tune to Married with children but wasn't sure.. i think in the latter episodes they changed the music theme of the show.
By the way, the actress who played Peggy Bundy (mother) is apparantly a very good singer in her own right.

Sagal was on gene Simmons(kiss) 1978 solo album.
She sang back up vocals and was in a brief relationship with Simmons too.
Just a bit of useless info for you guys

Every femal celeb has had a brief relationship with Gene Simmons.
I have all the Kiss solo albums - was a paid up member of the Kiss Army in 1977. The worst $25 I ever spent. Received stuff all.
You have intrigued me to go back and have a listen to that album to hear Katey sing.

Very true Chambo about Simmons with female celebs.
I was a member of the Kiss Army Australia in the 80s when the make up was off. I have heaps of their memorbillia of the band and have even met Paul and Gene (got autographs too)
Not going to Clispal next year to see them as now they have really become a bit of a joke IMO. New members wearing Ace and Peters make up. Not good.

Re: Where to buy Music in Adelaide
Found a new thrift charity shop
Grand Junction Road Rosewater
Between Port Road and the Rosewater Hotel [A pub with nice meals]
They opened recently
They have about good 100 Albums there
Some really good Who Albums and other assorted good albums
The Albums were priced to about the right value , and in good condition
There was a cheaper lot
My find was the Robert Cray Strong Persuader Album
Ive been after a song of Robert Crays for over a year now
The song is Smoking Gun , which is on this album , a funky gem of a song

Re: Where to buy Music in Adelaide
I went to Stirling today and went to Wolfies records (new store opened in 2012). It was very popular today and he sells new and used records/cd/dvds.
Also sells vinyl record players and equipment.
I came out empty handed. Not overly sold on alot of the stuff on vinyl he had at the time. Can be pricey but has $5 and $2 bins.
Definately worth a look though for interested buyers.
Ill go back soon to see if anything else interests me.

Re: Where to buy Music in Adelaide
Here is a letter and answer I read some time ago about LP maintenance in hot weather
The answer gives practical advice on how to store LP Vinyls as well
Letter
In the current heat I am having to move many items around to preserve them properly, among them my vinyl LP records
Could you recommend a safe place to store these so that they are not damaged by heat ?
Answer
Do not store them near any source of heat such as a heater, radiator, sunlight or artificial light
Keep them in a place with a constant temperature and humidity of 40-50 %
Keep the records in an airtight cabinet , box or other sealed container to prevent deterioration
Some records are sold with seal intact, which guarantees the sleeve beneath the seal is still in pristine condition
However the seals should be removed from the records if stored for a long time
Some seals may shrink over time and cause the sleeve to bend
Replace the seal with a strong transparent PVC sleeve
Stacking vinyl records may damage them, because of the cumulative weight of those on top
Always store records vertically

Attended the Arkaba record fair
Amongst the records I bought were :
Zager and Evans , Food for the mind
The Pretty Things , The vintage years
Tin Tin, Toast and marmalade for tea
As Molly would say , do yourself a favor
If you have never heard The Pretty Things do so , they are sensational
I found a Zager and Evans album at last
I had thought I would wait for another 512 years to find one !
Tin Tin, bought on spec, glad all over I bought it
Bought a few others, got there late Sunday
Probably missed out on some great stuff
