Forget about the sheep 'C.K', they'll learn.
We all know which supporters went home happier and wealthier last night !

The game itself was absolutely befitting of state football. It's just so unfortunate that it wasn't given the support it richly deserved from many supporters. I was in that queue (as were quite a few others that did the double)

Not much doubt about that statement being correct. I estimated the crowd at about 2,200 and was surprised with the 2,800 figure.
It will continue because the leagues need it to keep going, but that might need to be looked at again eventually because of the cost, etc.

Hindsight being a great thing, it would have been good if the game could have been played on Saturday June 9.
Port Adelaide playing on Sunday June 10, a bye for Adelaide, and it would have been Round 11 locally - a good midseason break time that may have attracted a bigger crowd.
There would be good reasons why that date didn't suit, however.

Back when the 2008 state match was played, club season ticket holders paid $5 to get it (from the $10 for a minor round match).
Half price. Now, this match was $10 for season ticket holders (100 per cent increase from 2008).

I'll probably get a bit of flack for this, but honestly I don't think State Football has a future. I agree with the views expressed above. Interstate rivalry in football as it once was, has become a roadkill under the wheels of the AFL juggernaut and there's nothing we can do to resurrect it. The most important task for the State Leagues now is to protect the integrity of their domestic competitions.Hong Kong Fooee wrote:I Fear for the future of State Football. Yes, I also agree, but the blame clearly lies with us, not the AFL. Somewhere between 10 and 15 thousand turn up to watch SANFL each week and only a small proportion of those turned up.
Nobody is expecting AFL supporters to turn up to a State game, but it was the lack of interest by SANFL supporters that meant a small crowd?
