There might be other ins and outs, please post If I have overlooked any players
Wow thats a massive turnover of players
On face value it would appear that Port Adelaide might be weaker this season
Seem to be a lack of known key marking forwards
Have plenty of good smalls to work with
Might well have a fitness edge on most other teams early in the season, with the AFL training
Very difficult to predict with confidence how they will perform, as its virtually a new team
Prediction
1st-6th

Re: Port Adelaide 2018 season
2-1-1 after 4 rounds
Have lost to ST and a draw against WWT
They are a dynamite outfit , the other teams probably need to play tight defensive footy against PA to beat them
I think they will win most games that become shoot outs
Ruckman Sam Hayes is most prob going to be a very good ruckman
Predicted minor round finish
1st-4th

Re: Port Adelaide 2018 season
2-1-2 After 5 rounds
In the round 5 loss, this was the ages of the 23 players listed in the footy budget
18...3
19...7
20...5
21...1
22...1
24...3
26...1
28...1
30...1
10 teenagers
15 aged 20 or less
499 total games played
214 of those games by Steve Summerton
Are the baby magpies rock hard fit, because of the AFL pre season training ?
Will the very young players improve as they gain playing experience ?

PA 2-1-4 after 7 games
Been easily beaten by WA and NA at Alberton the last 2 games
I have not seen them in the 2 losses, I wonder whats happened ?
I just dont know how to rate them for the rest of the season
They might click for a patch of football again this season and snare a finals spot
Expected minor round finish 5TH-9TH ?

Re: Port Adelaide 2018 season
Is it true that they had 18 AFL listed players to choose from yesterday? They looked a strong side on paper.
I wasn't expecting North to win let alone thrash them

Just My thoughts as a non Port person . Did Port loose some depth when non AFL players left their club . What I know of three to the Eagles one to Glenelg.
Plus the one game I've watched with Port in at Alberton . My point of view way to defensive, by this I refer to Port being two goals up at 1/4 time . Then defend defend defend defend no or very little attack .
Just My thoughts

wasn't that game, the game that was played in almost cyclonic conditions with the cyclone going across the ground ? if this is the match then it is always difficult to score at either end in those sorts of conditions & without seeing the match i'd suggest both teams played to the ''dead pockets''
or perhaps Chad Cornes is a far superior coach to Matthew Lokan

Your kind of correct
I was there with the huge wind hitting my face
Was hard to kick goals
But when the team Port is in the lead running in groups total control total domination they couldn't get over the line . Highlighted the last two minutes ( or longer ) in Ports forward line . Ball on the goal line all Port needed to do was knock it threw for a point they could not do it. Wind was an absolute shocker but when players like Summerton have 29 touches and your running all over the other team you should win not draw.
Second point I never thought I'd totally agree but Cornes coached Port into a GF .
That beats Lokan at Glenelg

Lost a lot of players pre season
At times looked like a good team in 2018
Some of the younger players gained some experience, they might be better next season

Re: Port Adelaide 2018 season
Is it Port's worst ever season? They certainly have never finished as low a 9th before. When they did win wooden spoons there were only about 6 teams in the league.
They have lost their best player, Summerton and also Lindsay Thomas who spent most of the year playing for them.
I can't see them improving next year unless the AFL side has a virtually injury free season.

Agree RR, their reserves team was massacred on a regular basis so there is not a lot of depth their to rebuild stocks. Form will depend on how many injuries the AFL team has and who they pinch from other SANFL teams as rookies.

Port's Academy side (playing in the SANFL Reserves comp) is officially no more.

So basically the two AFL teams are playing by the same rules from 2019.
Rather than 1 for Port and 1 for Adelaide.

Re: Port Adelaide 2018 season
I must congratulate the SANFL on this action.
Only question i have is what happens to players listed below when they exceed the specified age limit
Interstate players 18 to 21 can only be listed for 2 years
Next Generation Academy (NGA) and Father Son temp listed for 18th and 19th year of age
A maximum of four players from interstate that have attained the age of 18 on January 1st in the year in which they are first included on the AFL club supplementary list (turning 19) but who have not attained the age of 21 on January 1st , each of which can be listed for a maximum of two seasons.
AFL approved Next Generation Academy (NGA) and Father Son players can be temporarily permitted during their 18th and 19thyears (the years in which they are eligible for drafting with concessions) if nominated by the AFL club they are aligned to. It should be noted that this is subject to the player electing and agreeing to being nominated by AFC and PAFC for temporary permit.

Wasn't that the point of AFL Reserves+topups playing in the SANFL, that the excess non-AFL players got a chance at a higher level, and then (maybe) moved on to a SANFL league team?

From where I'm sitting it was set up different for Port than Adelaide.
Whatever reason they now seem to have the same rules .

Not my understanding mate --- i believe the player in the reserves competition were the powers u18 academy player with top ups surplus to sanfl league requirements topping up reserves positions not filled by academy u18 players
My best guess for future is that the power and crows will have significant less contracted player and that they will hardly get a game as the top up league position will be filled by the Interstate players 18 to 21 and Next Generation Academy (NGA) and Father Son

I don't really know why I have/am posting about AFL Port Adelaide. Good riddance I say.
