from the VFL & AFL competitions, add names as you think of any, whether they be footballers, media identities or any other footy related stories, i'll start with a couple
from memory he was originally from South Adelaide, definitely played in 3 states, Brian ''the whale Roberts
here's one that set the pulses racing, not sure of the spelling but i'm sure you will all know who i mean & that is Helen D'amico ?

KEVIN 'hungry' BARTLETT
403 games
8293 kicks
1086 marks
858 handballs
778 goals
What a player
He played from 1965-1983
He was 36 in his last season
Rover and a forward
Kevin Bartlett has a record, perhaps he may not like having
He has kicked the most points of all AFL/VFL players in history
He has scored 777 points with his 778 goals

GRANTLEY FIELKE
At a recent West Adelaide Presidents Luncheon stated
In 1991 was on
$1000 per game with West Adelaide
$800 per game with Adelaide Crows
Grantley had a sports store at Arndale Shopping Centre
He also stated he collected Sherrin footballs after Crows training sessions
He sold those second hand footballs at his shop !

His brother was my PE teacher. I didn't like him, and I don't think he liked me all that much either.
Then again I was the resident chubby kid, the natural known enemy of the PE teacher.

1955
Round 10
Brunswick Street Oval
5-9 Fitzroy
10-11 Melbourne
JOHN HARMS
The article is by John Harms , one of the very best sports writers in Australia
BRUNSWICK OVAL
Brunswick Street Oval was Fitzroys home ground until 1967
The last match they played there was against St Kilda in August 1966 , then the Roys went to Junction Oval
TONY ONGARELLO
In that 1955 game something happened
Tony Ongarello scored a goal with a place kick
It was the last time a goal was scored in the VFL with a place kick
PLACE KICK
Will there ever be a goal scored with a place kick in the now AFL ?

wasn't Mick Clingly i think from West Torrens the last player to kick a place kick in the S.A.N.F.L. ?
I'd presume sometime in the 1950's........i remember him being on the radio

In theory you could score from a place kick, not sure your coach would let you play much more of the game

VFL became the AFL in 1990
Should we count the Victorian based VFL flags[1897-1989]
Should we count the flags in SA/WA/NS/QL comps pre-1990
AFL PREMIERSHIPS 1990-2015
5 HW
3 BL
3 GE
3 WC
2 AC
2 CO
2 ES
2 NM
2 SS
1 CA
1 PA
0 FR
0 GC
0 GW
0 ML
0 RI
0 SK
0 WB
Using 2 teams as examples
Should the PA club be acknowledged as having won 1 or 37 flags ?
1 AFL
36 SANFL
Should the SK club be acknowledged as having won 0 flags or 1 ?
1 VFL
0 AFL
Question
What criterias should count in the amount of premierships clubs have actually won ?

Re: where are they now ? stories, footballers etc
1990 was just a name change. It wasn't a completely different or new competition like some national sporting leagues have done.
I don't think that can invalidate what went before it (the name change).
However, whether premierships from other competitions are included in official AFL tallies is the real question being asked (particularly by Geelong).

So does it start again post Gold Coast? And again post GWS? Of course not.
It's a very, very simple outcome.
The Geelong Football Club won 7 VFA premierships, 9 VFL/AFL premierships.
As noted elsewhere, the Port Adelaide Football Club has won 36 SANFL premierships and 1 AFL.
It really isn't that hard.
