5AA Sports Show
Wednesday 28/9/2016

Dissappointing
Didnt hear anything about the SANFL Grand Final
I listened to the show , it was exclusively all about the Power

I don't recall much sport being talked about on the show last night - it was all about the Great SA Blackout of 2016

someone told me there is word that the 8 clubs want to limit the 2 franchises to about 14 listed players playing in any one team, can someone enlighten me what it is all about please....however i'll post my thoughts on face value to what i heard

i'm sorry having them too strong, too weak or about on par with the 8 clubs is all WRONG, if they are in they should not be handicapped, it makes the whole thing even worse than what it is now..............................what SHOULD HAPPEN is the AFL should put money into a reserves competition & it may weaken the state level comps a little but they'll get stronger in a short time again, a bit like when they changed from 16 to 18 franchises & EVERYONE WOULD BE HAPPY & PLAYING ON AN EVEN PLAYING FIELD

This is an article in the press 15/10/2016

* As the ''traditional'' SANFL-clubs-and the SANFL executives prepare for a major rethink on how to structure the state league, the danger of an AFL Reserves comp has become more concerning
The AFL has brought an end to transfer fees between state leagues
So imagine if there was a national reserves comp[a wish of the SANFL traditionalists who want to rid their state league of the Crows and Power AFL reserves teams]
When the 18 AFL clubs seek ''top-up" players for their reserves teams, they will LOOK to the best state league- the SANFL- for talent
And as each SANFL-based player moves in the belief being in the AFL system helps his draft prospects, the SANFL club will be denied the $10,000 transfer fee
Double hit loss of players and loss of money
As Graham Cornes always says " Careful what you wish for!"

Indeed the next agenda items on transfer fess may be :
Abolishing clearance fees between SANFL clubs
Dumping payments to SANFL clubs for AFL draftees to have AFL place money in SANFL coffers for development programs

That presumes there might be a national Reserves competition, but that's extremely unlikely, due to the cost.

The transfer fee used to be $20,000, not $10,000 as stated in the article - $15K upfront, $5K the following year usually.

It would appear that the 8 sanfl clubs have swayed the sanfl to limit the number of afl listed players for Crows/Port to 16. I am unsure if this is all season or just finals.

The Crows particularly are ropeable and as I heard it on MMM, willing to take their bat an ball (and their $$) and go elsewhere.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out and whether the sanfl caves.

This has the potential to be a grenade bang smack at the heart of our sanfl competition.

if they saw the bigger picture & realized that not every year that they would have a great run with minimal injuries it wouldn't concern them too much............Chambo are we (the 8 SANFL clubs) in an AFL reserves competition or are AFL franchised reserves team in the SANFL ? or to put it another way who is playing in whose conditions & competition ?

ps, with the so called best attack, limited injuries, a decent midfield & an up & coming defence & still the Crows could not even make it to Preliminary Final week, i know the main weakness of the crows & i'll keep it to myself as i wouldn't want to help them

That is the grenade. Which way round is the competition? If it blows up, I think we will not only know, but there will be collatoral damage either way.

Having watched the Crows the 2 weeks prior to running into Sturt, they looked almost unstoppable. I still struggle with the concept that we were that good to be able shut their momentum down to that extent.

I still wonder whether the Crows resolve was dealt a blow when their AFL side went out of the finals prior to the sanfl prelim.

The fact that we will always wonder just how fair dinkum the AFL sides are, is enough to negate trust.

The rationale Jarman gave to maintain the current system is the Crows' need to develop juniors. What about the need to win the flag? That was not even raised.

Maybe it is all about whether we can live without the Crows dollars.
Possibly not in the current guise, but I think we can.

It is interesting hearing Jarman's tone of comments. For someone that grew up on the greats of sanfl footy, he has become pretty flippant about it.

I'm happy Jarman thinks & talks like that because I don't think he has much credibility in football circles

One more question Chambo can you tell me why they stopped the early season charity match at Norwood oval between Norwood & Adelaide?

The reason given at the time that the wall at the Norwood Oval was an occupational health and welfare issue and the AFL wouldn't sanction games there. I find it ironic that their reserves now play at Norwood. Is it only a health hazard for the "A-graders" and not the "B-graders"

I was of the belief the games ceased because of the margin gap of the matches & thus it wasn't a good look for the sanfl & was not a decent hit out for the Adelaide players.....I hadn't heard the wall one before

I had heard both reasons given, but I don't think either of them were official.

I thought the game became farcical when a combined Norwood and North Adelaide team played against the Adelaide Crows in about 2005. I don't know what good the game did for either local team.

It was definitely the lack of competiveness in the games that saw the Norwood games cease - think the last one was a 30 goal win to Adelaide or something like that.

The AFL have played NAB Challenge games at Norwood so don't think the wall would've been an issue.
