There was also a Alice Ormsby Gore
She was a girlfriend of Eric Clapton
This Gore was not related to the Orsmby Brothers band
Just had the names of Ormsby and Gore

Re: COVERS - Take your pick
Watched a documentary on tv the other night about music coming out of a small town called Muscle Shoals in Alabama USA and one recording had many covers. It was called 'You Better Move On' by Arthur Alexander.
Covered by many artists including The Rolling Stones, the Hollies, George Jones & Johnny Paycheck and Mink DeVille and quite a few others, I found the Youtube video and didn't realize how many artist actually covered this song.

You Better Move On [1962]
Album can currently be purchased from only $271-50
To think that Arthur Alexander supplemented his income by being a bus driver,
To currently have an album at this cost , wow !
Alexander also had a single in 1962 called Anna
The Beatles covered this song in 1963
If Alexanders version is half as good as the Beatles it would be worth listening to

STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN[By Led Zeppelin 1971]
V
TAURUS [By Spirit 1968]
The start of the Taurus song sounds similar to the start of Stairway To Heaven
So much so it ends up in the court rooms
This could be a ma$$ive court case
Court date :10/5/2016
The irony of this date is that its the Zodiac sign of Taurus

Re: COVERS - Take your pick
I reckon this is all getting a bit ridiculous.
If we are now protecting chord progressions, you may as well give up as a song writer.
There are a finite number of ways scales can be put together. They have and will continue to be repeated for all eternity.
How many songs using the 1st, 4th and 5th (ie 12 bar blues format) are out there?
Hundreds I'd say.
The Stairway to Heaven progression is nothing special either. Has been used a number of times.
And why has it taken 45 years to get to court?
Reading that article it seems all about people (mainly lawyers) wanting to get rich and not about songwriting.

W.O.L.D [1974]
Harry Chapin
The first few seconds of this song sound similar to Stairway To Heaven/ Taurus
As Chambo has posted if you listen to enough songs , some will occasionally sound similar to others
CATS IN THE CRADLE
Harry Chapin also had this smash hit in 1974
For a long time I had thought Cat Stevens was the singer

FUNKYTOWN
Lipps Inc [1980] 9.5
Psuedo Echo [1986] 9.2
I remember people singing this song with a similar lyric to Funky
Both versions brilliant
The Lipps Inc version a shade better
The Lipps Inc video includes some quite awesome dancing

Re: COVERS - Take your pick
I think Santana's guitar work on it probably brought more notoriety.
Back when Fleetwood Mac did it I think they didn't have Lindsay Buckingham, so much of their earlier stuff wasn't as guitar riff-laden as their mid to late 70s stuff.
Fleetwood Mac's greatest period was when they had the very versatile line up of Fleetwood, John and Christine McVie, Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. I think their wide appeal goes down to 3 very individual song writing talents that offered quite a diversity of material during their 70s - 80s heydays.
Of those 3 songwriters I think I liked Christine McVie's work the best. Although she probably took a bit of a back seat when it came to profile in the band. Buckingham and Nicks went on to solo success, McVie was happy to retire to the English countryside.

YELLOW RIVER
9.2 Christie
9.2 Jigsaw
Heard this on Coast FM today
This song was offered to the Tremeloes by Christie
The Tremeloes decided against releasing Yellow River
Christie regained the rights and had the smash hit, as did Australian band Jigsaw
As for The Tremeloes silence is not golden

Sun Arise - Rolf Harris...unfortunately his music is rarely played these days due to ...well we all all know why.
Sun Arise covered by quite a few artists..
I like this cover by the Jungle Kings, local Sydney band.
Other artists.
Alice Cooper
Tony Steele
The Godfathers
