Heard thorpey sing it with the original Aztecs at the entertainment centre all decked out in there stove pipe suits not long before he died--it was a sensational performance, sounded just like the original version from way back.

'Concrete and Clay' was done over many times, i liked Martin Plaza's (Mental as Anything) version... but there was a female who sang it very well, can't seem to remember or find out who she was.

Dits, are you certain it was this song and not "Tar And Cement" recorded in 1966 by American female singer Verdelle Smith ?

Well i was close...it was Tar and Cement... apologies if i have confused anyone.  I think it may well have been Verdell Smith. iI'l check out youtube.

Released in 1965 by The Beach boys and written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love it was one of there biggest hits and still heard on radio regularly.

Another version was released in 1988 by David Lee Roth which became a hit as well, but as a Beachboy tragic from wayback I liked his version but the original can't be beaten.

Yeah I liked them both too.
Except the bit where DLR heavy metalled it!!

This was original version and to me the best by one of music' greats

BUT---A cover version in 1977 by the lovely Linda Ronstadt was as close as you could get IMO to the original with Don Henley form the Eagles as a backing singer

Just a little side story about the lovely Linda Ronstadt, sadly she was diagnosed last August with Parkinson's disease which has left her unable to sing due to loss of muscle control which is common in Parkinson's patients.

As the Zoot was mentioned on another thread.... they also had a cover song of Eleanor Rigby, which i think is a better version than the Beatles...they spiced it up a bit with a little heavy rock. Daryl Cotton (Lead singer) Rick Springfield (lead guitar)

Was it Joe Cocker that also had an interesting version too?
