2013 SANFL Media Awards

The SANFL held it's official 2013 Media Awards Night this evening... winners were as follows

Best Photographic Coverage - Deb Curtis (The Ben Kane shot is a beauty)

Best Television Coverage - Ian Shuttleworth ( Channel 10 )

Best Print Coverage - Michaelangelo Rucci (The Advertiser)

Best Radio Coverage - Joe Sullivan (ABC Radio)

Best Story In An Medium - ABC TV - Grand Final Pre Game Introduction

Significant Contribution - Peter Cornwall


There were also were two community media winners whose details escape me for the moment.

who? i follow sanfl radio closely, never heard of him. Did RPH and Life not enter or something?

Is Joe Sullivan the bloke who did the ABC Radio? Didn't they only cover the finals, don't think the whole season? Must have been really good, when the community stations cover all the games and seem to get ignored. Looks like the SANFL suck up to the major players a bit. Money and coverage?

Did the bloke who took that great photo of the Silverlock mark get anything?

Joe covers footy in Port Pirie and then worked for ABC Radio as their Boundary Rider throughout the SANFL finals series...

Yes, both stations mentioned above submitted the 3 pieces of work as a part of their nomination...

LifeFM's Commentary Team were one of the finalists, along with the RPH Thursday Night SANFL Show with Grant Coffee and myself...

What does he do in Port Pirie?
No footy in this area is covered on radio or TV so he covers footy in the paper?

If Rucci wins an award it has to be a sham.

i'm amazed at some of the names there, some people that cover it week in & week out must think ''why bother''......i wish they would put the photo, story, interview etc against the named winner so you can judge more accurately as to  the worthiness or not, however someone doing the whole season compared to ''bits & pieces'' of a season should be taken into account

One of the most deserving winners on the night for a massive contribution to SANFL history.

Very interesting to note, though, that of the last 5 times this Award has been made, four of the winners have been Advertiser journalists (2008 aside: Ken Cunningnam and Dennis Browne).

All of those journalists very worthy and fully deserving of recognition, but does wonder why the SANFL appears to have a distinct aversion to other mediums and outlets.

Why waste time voting on shams like this.

If Rucci wins an award it has to be a sham.

To be clear these awards are not the voting ones by fans run by FOOT-e TIMES SA ...

- Non Game Day Show - RPH League Teams Show

- Writer - Zac Milbank (SANFL)

- Overall Favourite Media Personality - Phil Aspinall (too many to mention)

Seems to be a huge disconnect between the SANFL and the fans?

Fans = Community Media

SANFL = Main Stream Media

ABC1 does get a gong in both.

Judges listen to the submission provided and are probably more independent media veteran/experts than regular SANFL fans.
