Re: 2013 Minor Round Summary - Port Magpies (6th)
2013 Ladder position: 6th (8-12)
2013 Form Line: LLWBLLLWBWWWLBLLWLLWLLW
What went right: Winning four games in a row mid-season to reignite their season, including inflicting Norwood’s last loss of the season (and of Nathan Bassett’s era)
What went wrong: The season overshadowed by the Port Power Reserves circus.
Summary: Port had a shocking start to their season, winning just one of their first seven matches.
To Port’s credit, they fought back and won 4 games in a row, including wins over Norwood and Centrals at Elizabeth, and they looked like they could sneak into the finals.
The final match against Centrals late in the season saw Port’s finals chances officially end when they went down to the Dogs at Alberton, and while they split their last 4 matches 2-2, by then the focus had largely focused more on how the Port Magpies will look like in the future rather than the current side missing yet another finals series.
Considering the off-field circus at the club, Ken McGregor did a gallant job in getting a side to be largely competitive for most of the season, and at their best could beat anyone. Their worst, however, meant they could lose to anyone as well.
For Port, next year is the start of a new era with the side officially being Port Power’s reserves side. How the side will fare on-field, how much support will they get from Magpie supporters who despise the Power, time will tell. It is time of many unknowns down at Alberton.

ya know, with the end of the real magpie era there, wonder whether the club will look at opening the name of the ground up for sponsors, now that the "real" Alberton era has come to an end.

Alberton Oval will always, in my eyes, be Alberton Oval and I would doubt that that would ever likely change.
Alberton Oval with a black and white guernsey in the SANFL is still very "real".

To the over 30 generations, all the ovals are still Unley, Richmond, Alberton, Prospect, etc. etc.
The clubs call their ovals by the sponsors names because of the Ca$h involved, the rest of us still use the old and preferred names.

Yep, I'm sure "Gliderol Stadium" is a massive cash cow for you. Clearly, like yourselves, the door was fully closed and bottomed out this year.Scrunch wrote:Sell out is preferable to hand out

See theres that attitude again - "Not enough money in that and too much work involved, let's just beg for it, worked every other time"
