Just starting this thread as the place to come and discuss trades, the draft and other pre-season happenings for the 2013/14 off season for the 2 SA sides.

Righto, obviously it’s not Port’s off season just yet, but I do have some thoughts on the early rumours going around regarding Adelaide and their willingness to trade back into the draft.
The 3 names being bandied around are:
McKernan: I remember watching him in a preseason game about 3 years ago, just as he was starting to make a claim for a senior spot. He pulled down some fantastic contested marks, and look like he could become a big and brutal forward. Alas, he hasn’t really developed as hoped. I do think he still has potential to take the next step in the right environment though, if he was to secure a move back to a Melbourne based club I do think he could produce a Maric style turnaround.
Worth: At best a late second rounder you would think, more likely third.
McKay: I’ve always liked McKay, he is silky smooth when with the ability to flash past the outside of a pack for a handball receive, and slice through half a dozen opposition defenders/midfielders with pure pace. I would be very sad to see him go, but he has had a year to forget this year and there is a queue of young midfielders bashing down the door for his spot.
Worth: Potentially an early second rounder I reckon. He would be an excellent fit for a team needing an outside mid, and he is another who has the potential to take things up a notch if he heads back to ‘home’ base in Melbourne.
Henderson: I find this one alarming. Has been on the fringe for a while, but when Reilly went down this year he took the role as the floating half back and did it superbly. Has a wonderful mix of height, speed and agility and if Adelaide trade him I will be pretty annoyed.
Worth: High second rounder – but IMO with Reilly being 29 and having had a shocker of a year form wise, he need to stay on our list.

I agree about Henderson. Losing him will be a blow unless we can package him for a first round pick. In some ways he seems to be competing with Andy Otten for the "throw him wherever we have a gap" player which probably hasn't helped his development. If we are being ruthless the Crows would probably be better off trying to trade Reilly and keeping Henderson

Good thread, Ginge.
McKernan - Adelaide will keep him. With only Jacobs and Jenkins in the ruck battery and it quite obvious Angus "Mirrors" Graham has been a waste of trade table time, Adelaide will need a back-up ruckman. What I have seen of Ben Dowdell suggests he is a long way from being ready to hold down a spot at AFL level. McKernan will only be sent packing if it is for another big man, like, I dunno, a Jessie White.
McKay and Henderson are both interesting cases.
McKay can be very good, but his poor games have no impact on the contest at all. He could be worth something at the trade table. Adelaide need to take something to the table.
Henderson, well, I wouldn't mind him across half back for Port and I'd be surprised if Adelaide traded him out. They would want a second round pick or a third and a tall for him at least.
No tough decision on Thompson, Reilly or Callinan, Ginge?

I think at worst Thompson could still be very useful up forward, so I would keep him. I get the impression there may have been a soft tissue situation (groin) holding him back a little this year.
Callinan could be in trouble, especially if Adelaide secure the services of Eddie Betts.
Reilly. Tough one. I reckon he might get a reprieve - but at this point I would be giving Henderson a game ahead of him.

Worth 3 - 400 a year I reckon.
I'd probably prefer AFC to keep the cash for next year's free trade market, a few potential crackers will be up for the taking.

Bollocks according to the Crows. I'm not so sure though, I wouldn't be surprised if he wants a move.

Fwoar harsh sapaul.
I think he's worth a tad more that 60k. Would definitely be in the top 5 small forwards in the comp.

I reckon he could be in trouble R&B. A shadow of the player he was two or three years ago unfortunately.

Re: Crows & Power 13/14 Off Season
The Crows have said they want to trade into the 1st round - but the 3 or 4 playets who would get them a first round pick, Dangerfield, Crouch, Walker and Sloane, will no doubt not be put up for trade.
So will be interesting to see what transpires there, as far as who they actually are prepared to lose to get an earlier draft pick.
Port will probably delist D Stewart, Brett Ebert (retired), Thomas (rumoured
Richmond free agent target), as well as maybe Logan who is probably 50/50 to stay. Most rookies wil probably be axed.
Not sure Port will have much they'd be prepared to trade - Paul Stewart could be worth a 3rd round pick. Renouf could be thrown in to sweeten another deal.

Collingwood have gone the uncle chop chop on their list over the last couple of days.
Could Jolly be worth a punt for the Crows given they have a lack of ruck depth on their list? Particularly if a deal is done for McKernan to go back to Melbourne?
Jolly turns 32 in November, but could be useful as a pinch hitter for a couple more years.

Article in the 'tiser today suggesting Port might be willing to part with their first round pick to get Polec from Brisbane?
Is he worth that?

Re: Crows & Power 13/14 Off Season
I wouldn't think so Ginge.
It will come down to who wins the bidding war between Port and Adelaide for his services. We do have a first and second round pick to offer, so we're in front.
He was a highly touted junior so it might just be a case of his last 12-24 months he was home sick. He was taken at #5 in the 2010 draft.
With our list full of kids and a pick in the first round being a relative unknown quantity it would be less of a risk to lure a Polec home than it would be to simply pick a kid from the draft pool.

Yea he'll end up at the Power I think, we've got nothing to give Brisbane for him.
As you said, I'd risk a draft pick for him, but I wouldn't trade an established player for him which is Adelaide's only option.

Re: Crows & Power 13/14 Off Season
I read on the web somewhere a list assessment of Adelaide by Terry Wallace. He reckons Adelaide is short on midfielders - does he have any idea?
I would say that midfielders are one thing we do have. Many of them are still in the early stages of their development for sure, but I don't think we need more personally.
I actually think our list is relatively well balanced - just green. A quality small forward like Betts would be handy, otherwise we just have to be patient and wait for the boys to become men (and cross our fingers that Tex comes back well from injury).

The tiser floating the idea of Vince being traded for Polec.
A couple of years ago I would've said no way, but now I would say it's worth considering actually.

Nothing really, but he's only been in the system for 3 years. Was a top 5 pick and I think is worth the potential gamble.

I dont think I would give almost anything for him, Brisbane will get nothing if he goes in the pre season draft. With Adelaide having a pick before the Power, thats how I would be playing it. Doubt anY club before the Crows would pick him up given he has said he only wants to play in SA.

I did think of that, but wondered whether the Crows penalties extend to the pre-season draft?
