Foxtel Cup, Norwood and Graham Cornes
Graham Cornes thinks Nathan Bassett and Norwood have disgraced SANFL football with their attitude to the Foxtel Cup.

Have they, or is their attitude justified?

It's Graham's job to write a topical and controversial piece...
What would he have seriously done, if he were in Bass's shoes, coaching the Bays, for arguments sake?
I think until the competition is played in the pre-season, the participating clubs will not take it 100% seriously, while they have the bugger picture of their state league in mind.

Whilst I'm not a fan or Norwood or Bassett, Graham should have mentioned EF also dropped 8 players from its side from the weekend too. Neither side had its best team on the park so it was probably a fair contest with similar amounts of depth in each representative 22

Not a fan of Cornes but one of the best pieces he has written.
Totally agree 100% with him.
Bassett needs to hold his head in shame!

I have to say that West last year went to Perth with a very, very inexperienced side and were embarrassing.
I think that they decided that a first round in Perth against Claremont was a hard task and made a decision accordingly, so it's hard to criticise Bassett on those grounds.
On the other hand, this was a home game followed by a bye against a beatable opponent.

Re: Foxtel Cup, Norwood and Graham Cornes
: The SANFL / WAFL / VFL premiership is more important than the Foxtel Cup
: Everyside from WAFL/VFL/SANFL does not play their full squad in these games.
: Thus the loser will alway be critised for not taking it seriously enough
: But the winner will have its missing senior players forgotten about or applauded for efficient list management.
Now some have more out than others, Port against Morningside and West @ Claremont come to mind, I though Norwood put out a reasonable team in the cirumstances.
What was weird was the communication carry on preceeding it. Just say its a long season, SANFL premiership is #1 aim, a few will be rested as occurs with ever club ... and who within SANFL ranks would complain?
