Foxtel Cup Round 1: Norwood v East Fremantle. Tuesday 21 May, 8:05pm @ AAMI Stadium
Norwood v East Fremantle
Tuesday 21 May
AAMI Stadium
8:05pm
Telecast: Fox Footy - 8:00pm
After a couple of qualifying matches, the Foxtel Cup kicks off for 2013 with Norwood taking on East Fremantle. Norwood are coming off a win over South, and maintain second spot on the SANFL ladder. East Fremantle are coming off a 42 point loss to Claremont and currently sit 4th on the WAFL ladder.
How strong a side will Norwood send out? Will East Fremantle be able to be competitive with not only a limited preparation, but also a flight from Perth shortly before the match? Should be an intriguing game.

The awkward moment I read 'East Perth' instead of 'East Fremantle' in the WAFL Match Summaries on the WAFL Website
You are indeed correct. It was East Perth who had the solid 20 point win over Swan Districts.
Opening post will be corrected accordingly

a lot of changes to Norwood (i don't believe they're all injured) which is a surprise given what was previously stated by them, if your going to be in it you should play your best possible team, to me it is showing the opposition (i wonder how many they have out) no respect & no respect for the competition they ELECTED to go in

These are the players East Fremantle have left out of the team that played Claremont last weekend in the WAFL. Mitchell Brown, Tyler Chalwell, Brad Cooper, Brad Dalziell, James Depane, Steven Dodd, Jayden Schofield, Joshua Simpson. These are the best players listed for East Fremantle in that match Lester Smith , Depane, Dodd ,Brown ,Dalziell.[4 of the 5 in the best players Saturday , are not in the Tuesday team ] Good luck to both teams in the John McEnroe Cup ...

A lot of people seem to have this view. Me personally I dont understand it. I would think most clubs would consider premiership or finals in their domestic competition as their main priority so field an understrength side to preserve key players for that comp. Make the Semi or final and that I expect would be a different ball game and clubs would choose closer to full strength if they can.

There are a few things you can (IMO) get out of the Foxtel Cup.
The Prize money.
The opportunity to travel interstate as a group and build the sense of "team".
Expose kids (Reserves/U18's) to the next level (?) of football to help develop them.
Put simply, the clubs who choose to enter the Foxtel Cup can use it for whatever they want to use it for.

I agree with you Booney. And the initial outlook prior to Round 1 wont necessarily be the same should a club progress deep enough into the competition. That club has every right to alter their intention depending on a wide range of variable circumstances.

West took a B Grade side to Perth last year against Claremont and got thumped.
They went on and played in the SANFL grand final and to me even though we lost the GF I would still rather be there than not, so I do understand why clubs don't play there strongest team in the Foxtel Cup.

may've been a Scrappy game but bad kicking is bad footy, i feel with the 'changes' Norwood made they had little or no respect for the opposition & indeed the competition, i thought with the fines etc that they've copped for the salary cap breaches, they might've wanted to win the whole competition to pay the fines off
is Rory O'Brien the same person that lasted 5 minutes at North Adelaide ?

I don't know why clubs don't take this competition seriously .... for starters, it costs a club nothing, jumpers, shorts, socks for every player plus a few extras and 1/2 dozen footballs are given to each club participating and they get to keep the lot win or lose. Travel, accommodation, bus transfers from airport to motels and grounds, meals for players and staff are all paid for. There's $100,000 for winning it and that would go long way in any footy club.
