Early predictions
It's way too early, of course, but what is your 2013 ladder as things stand now?
And why?
And why?

No reason. It won't turn out like this, but I have nothing better to do at the moment.

Same reasons as Howthewestwaswon (though I do expect Centrals to struggle this year)

South to be big improvers this year.
Lost 6 games by less than a kick last yr and only won 1-2 home games....have only lost an over rated chf who sleeps with the light on, and a couple of fringe players.
A couple of recruiting announcements shortly will improve our list significantly from last years and we've done very well in the mini draft.
looking forward to 2013.

That certainly would be a changing of the guard. The team that won three flags in the 20th century on top and the team that won three wooden spoons in the 20th century on the bottom!

we've already seen a 'changing of the guard' from last century to this century & that is off course Central

Granted, but I always thought that it was only a matter of time before Central cracked a premiership, somehow, with due respect I have never thought the same about South. Similarly as a younger person I had it drummed into me that Port and North don't win wooden spoons. I guess Port still have that distinction, Messrs Hart and McDermott have a lot to answer for at Prospect.

Do you think I placed Westies to high Testy?

I'm really not sure how the Bloods will go, but having the wooden spooners from 2012 playing of in the 2013 GF is a bold prediction.

I think (and hope) people predicting West to slide out of the five are over-estimating the input of the players we've lost. Our defence remains intact and should ensure we at least stay in the top five. We will, however, need to find new ways of kicking goals to be top two again.

I thought your defence was your attack? Seriously, you blokes have lost too much to cover when your depth was an issue already. Especially in the big man department.

Depth wasn't an issue last year, it was widely recognised that our depth was greatly improved.
Big man department? The only 'talls' we've lost are Willits and Fisher. Nelson is a better ruckman than Willits, and only broke into the side late in the year when Webb was injured. Mangan is a KPP who can play back or forward, to replace Fisher.
The Carusos were not major contributors and are eminently replaceable (Shane Tuck is an improvement on ball). Ben Fisher is a loss but I think we can cover a half back flanker.

Re: Early predictions
Depth wasn't a problem last year from my point of view either, all grades made the finals.
Nelson definately held his own in the big man dept. and to me was more effective than Willets.
The Caruso boys struggled most of the year and Brad Fisher popped up only now and then.
The only worry I have about this year is the limited number of recruits because of our indisgresion with the salary cap that we have got.

Spot on Testy
the only player who WESTIES will miss is WILLETTS
I look forward to the emergent s of Bonney, Keough, Laird, Still (when fit)

Re: Early predictions
I agree with most of what has been said but I think Brad Fisher was better than you are giving him credit for. Always took the best defender and worked really hard up and down the ground. Willets in field voice will be sorely missed and his ability to go forward. Nelson will prove to be a better ruck man than Willets.
The Caruso boys had a fairly average year and both played reserves last season
Flaggy it would be nice for Shane to be back but Travis will do
Booney there are plenty of players from the reserves pushing for league games which is why Borholm and Blesing left

Yes, quite right, thanks brodlach. Maybe I was just a year ahead of my time though.

Sturt may well have lost games last year, but they were not disgraced in a number of them that could have gone the other way, they have a very good group of junior players and have recruited well for this season. I don't think Sturt are as far away as many believe and will challenge for a place in the five when it counts.
