Re: Foxtel Cup
A weekend game allows fans to travel. I know a lot of South fans enjoyed their trip to the MCG.
Personally would like it played a suburban grounds so host clubs can make some money and it portrays a better atmosphere.
However I know that with TV set up that is very unlikely.
A mid week game would mean players & fans would need 2 days off work to travel ... also leads to an issue with a short break between either the SANFL game and Foxtel Cup or vice versa.
Alas because the AFL saturates every timeslot in the weekend (bar 10am Saturday) there is not a perfect timeslot.

That said
in Rd 1 Part 1 there are two AFL games
Rd 2 Part 2 there are seven
Rd 11,12 & 13 there are only 6
There are also long weekends for Easter, Anzac Day, WA Day & Queens Birthday
So maybe some creative scheduling in good time slots where there is less games or a long weekend might work.

I'm usually washing the dishes when the Foxtell Cup games are on. If I'm not,I'll find some other excuse.

Not so much a case of not being happy, just not being interested. In the words of Wally Miller, the most disappointing seasons in his time as an administrator at the Norwood FC were the ones immediately following premiership success.
The reason? Because the club lost focus and began chasing other pursuits. I would have thought our club should set itself the task of becoming the first Norwood team to win successive flags for 90 years, not worrying about some unimportant foxtell cup.
Norwood won the 2012 flag because of it's single focus on one goal, and the ability to rest players at appropriate times during the season. If we commit to the cup then limp towards the finals and struggle because our players aren't fresh, I know what I'll be blaming.
Seems like we never learn.

You make some pertinent points 'AH', and I share many of them.
But I also have immense faith in our current personnel and their judgement.
Enough faith to believe we CAN win both competitions.

Whether we win both or not, only one will be important.

Rather than a bye weekend, I think they could see how it goes as a mid-week game, depending on TV issues.
It seems the games will be played on Tuesday nights.

Aristotle asks:
What's the difference between the Foxtel Cup spoiling our premiership chances and the Foxtel Cup being an essential part of our premiership preparation?
Answer:
One hundred thousand dollars.
Aristotle says there'll be no Reserves sides picked this year

testy, I bow to your overwhelming perspicacity. It is precisely this sort of diligent quest for accuracy which lifts my heart and confirms my hope for the human race. I shall therefore rephrase: "there'll be no Reserves sides picked next season."
