Hills Football League 2012: Country Division
HFL fans - feel free to discuss the seasons in Central and Country Division in these threads. Look forward to knowing what is going on in both leagues, particularly with my long connection to Country Division.

Cheers!
Cheers boys, good to see. Always enjoy the Hills Footy goss and am disappointed at the lack of pre-season info in the Courier thus far. How many clubs are on the track, how go the numbers, who's rich, who's where?

Callington defeated yesterday by Kersbrook.
64.33 (417) to 0.0.
I was part of the inaugural Callington team in 1995 and played there for 7 years, being the first senior player to reach 100 games.
What is transpiring there is just so detrimental to the mission of the original player and administration group. Surely the time has come to put the club into recess and look at re-entering the HFL in a C-grade capacity to stop what was such a proud club remaining a punchline in football.

I'm glad this topic has finally arisen on this site. It isn't funny that it's come to this and one wonders why the powers-that-be in the Hills Football League has allowed this once very proud club to be absolutely gutted this way. I was also a part of the early Eagles. It should be remembered they played finals in just their 4th year as a club, fielded A's and B's in their first year, and had juniors in all grades within their first 4 years. No-one was paid a cent at that time as far as I know.

Yes, this sort of situation has to be addressed.
Games like that help no-one and must be shattering for the few loyal players who stick to the club.

Is it fear dictating that if they shut the club down, keeping the town alive won't be worth it?

I feel for them, nobody wants to see scores like that it does nothing for the game.

I was saddened to hear Callington United Eagles Football Club will be all over once this agonizing season has ended, if not before.
The above comments are a reminder that clubs with huge potential can go wrong with bad management. The first eight years reflected a club to be proud of before decent, hard-working, professional people were gradually disposed of by a pub culture that wanted fire-drums, paid players, premierships and a band on the back of a truck without any effort on their part. Today Callington is home to a mining boom, with dads and lads everywhere and nothing to offer them in winter except a good oval. Yet the cricket club is thriving. Mis-management has killed Callington United Eagles. Furthermore, when life-lines were thrown to them by early management personnel in very recent years, their committee knew best. What a senseless death of a potentially great club. I have nothing more to say.

A club is always dependent upon the people running it.
Too often, good people are superseded by others who promise the world anbd deliver nothing. It all gets too hard and the result is often what we see here.
Very sad.

Country Ladder at the end of the minor round:
1 Echunga 16 0 74.06
2 Kersbrook 14 2 68.74
3 Nairne Bremer 11 5 61.21
4 Meadows 10 6 57.11
5 Gumeracha 7 9 44.91
6 Birdwood 6 10 46.57
7 Macclesfield 5 11 45.96
8 Kangarilla 2 14 31.66
9 Sedan Cambrai 1 15 21.29
Gums lost to Meadows in the Elimination Final and Nairne beat Kersbrook in the Qualifing final.
Kersbrook thrashed Meadows in the 1st Semi and Echunga beat Nairne in the 2nd Semi.
I think Kersbrook will come back and trounce Nairne in the Prelim this week and set up a repeat Kersbrook v Echunga Grand Final at Maccy on September 7.

Big win for Echunga today:
Echunga 16.12
Kersbrook 10.8
Big grand final win, Bas was able to counter the pressure from the Brookers and his "extras" had a final effect.
Well done Muzza ( he was one of my "extras") and well done "Warey" well done to Fleet BOG?
