Centrals are coming off a poor loss to Norwood while Sturt were belted by West. Will Centrals bounce right back, or will Sturt inflict another loss on Centrals?

I don't think Sturt have enough firepower to knock off the Bulldogs at Elizabeth. Central, who would be itching to bounce back, by 6-7 goals.

i saw both these teams play on the weekend & unless Sturt improve dramatically they'll get slaughtered, i'd imagine Jenkins will replace Mckernan at Adelaide so that'll weaken them more, also i'm sure Central will have their last meeting in the back of their minds & want to square up the 2012 ledger

I'd prefer to wait for the teams, but over the past 10 years or so, the hardest thing to do in footy is to travel to Elizabeth the week after Central are coming off a loss. Sturt will have to play well to win this one.

There's no doubt we've got the job in front of us this week at Elizabeth. Taking nothing away from West, who are starting to get their act together under Collins, I thought our performance last Saturday was close to our worst for the year. We had our share of the ball, but our use of it was sub standard and we lack strong forward targets. 43 inside 50s for 7 goals 13 speaks for itself. You never give up in this game. We're better than we showed against West and we have to believe we've got a chance. But it's certainly testing time for the club as a whole.

Everyone keeps going on about "having to face Central after a loss" - Its not unusual for Central to put consecutive losses together during a season then peak when it counts. Lots of pressure on Sturt and I think its a good chance they will bounce back in style and roll Central this week.

BenW,
any idea how many consecutive losses Central has had since 2000 ?
i know it's happened (i remember getting $9.00 one year for them to go top after 3 or 4 losses in a row) but i don't think it has happened very often, agree that they 'peak' at the right time

And further to that, I'd be interested in how many times they've lost at Elizabeth after a loss the week before. My guess is, very rarely.

my guess is zero
i read with interest the stat that Central (before their last home game when they won) had lost 3 out of their previous 66 games, so that'd be once against Glenelg, once against Sturt on that ANZAC DAY massacre & Norwood early this year

Sturt opened really well, and it was the classic example of a team not making the most of their chances, booting 3-7. They were almost dominating the midfield and providing forward with plenty of chances.
The puzzling thing to me is the amount of running they make Duldig do. A couple of times he was so puffed he could hardly kick the ball. Central on the other hand were direct when they went forward and kicked 5 goals straight.
The second term saw Sturt's workload drop and Central pretty much did what they pleased for the rest of the match. I only watched the game on TV, but it seemed to me Sturt had too many players who worked hard when they had the ball, but not so hard when they didn't.

A solid 4 quarter effort by Centrals in a destructive 78 point win over Sturt. Sturt did give Centrals a run for their money in the opening quarter, but their kicking for goal was ordinary as Centrals set up a 5 point lead despite having half of Sturt's scoring shots.
Centrals then got the kicking yips, kicking 4.8 in the second quarter, but they kept Sturt to 0.3, and from there it was pretty much one way traffic as Centrals shut Sturt right down.
