A return to State of Origin?? Empty A return to State of Origin??

I have heard that it may make a come back as a pre-season or after season event, but many are still unsure of what the best format would be.

Upon looking at crowd records between 1979-1999, it is clear to me that the ideal solution would be to have only Vic vs SA, in a very similar way to the NRL having NSW vs Qld, as the crowd numbers between these two states stand out above the rest.

Whilst WA has an important role to play in footy, IMO they don't carry the same aura as Vic or SA, and I feel the public at the time felt the same way with crowds between WA and Vic or WA and SA nowhere near the good numbers of Vic vs SA.

Seriously, what do others think? scratch

I'd love to see it happen but I just don't see it being supported by the wider footy community.

In a way I can't blame them. I mean, say we had one this year in the bye round and Dangerfield got injured playing for Victoria. How would I feel about that? Dirty to say the least.

I've always said though that the SANFL should at least have an event at the end of the year where they 'select' a state side in a similar fashion to the all Australian team.

I think it's a shame that players these days are denied the honour of being listed as a '.... time SA rep'., and I think this would be a good way to restore this honour even if it didn't translate to an actual game.

Ch 7 are showing some highlights of the 1992 SA v Vic as part of the Wayne Carey flashbacks package - the only game Carey go to play for SA?

Some of the names in both sides...unbelievable!

Why are they so reluctant to bring this back??! Evil or Very Mad

Another thought I had is they could have a carnival every 2 years involving all states.

NSW and Qld would be pretty competitive these days. Check out these potential line ups:

Firstly the New South Wales and ACT team:
F Justin Koschitzke Tom Hawkins Isaac Smith
HF Adam Schneider Taylor Walker Ben McGlynn
C Kieran Jack Lenny Hayes Craig Bird
HB Tony Armstrong L. Roberts-Thompson Mark McVeigh
B Dylan Addison Phil Davis Brent Staker
R Hamish McIntosh Daniel Cross Jarrad McVeigh
I Matthew Suckling Luke Breust Jacob Townsend
Sub Aiden Riley
Emg Jason Tutt Malcolm Lynch Nathan Gordon

And the Queenslanders:
F David Hale Kurt Tippett Jarrod Harbrow
HF Michael Osbourne Nick Riewoldt Ricky Petterd
C David Armitage Dane Beams Courtenay Dempsey
HB Brendan Whitecross Sam Gilbert Cheynee Stiller
B Luke McGuane Daniel Merrett Josh Drummond
R Shaun Hampson Simon Black Karmichael Hunt
I Rohan Bail Claye Beams Andrew Raines
Sub Joel MacDonald
Emg Zac Smith Brad Miller Peter Yagmoor

I think it is a thing of the past unfortunately, the clubs themselves are the reluctant ones for fear of injuries to ther players which could cost them a shot at a premiership which is what they play for.

I also can't see it happening pre season, what form do you go on , there isn't any ?

I know the NFL have their Pro Bowl (All-Star) Game each year, but it's played with modified rules to try and minimise injury. I know it'd probably be harder in our game to do so, but if the AFL and AFLPA are keen to bring in this East v West concept that's been floated around recently, what's the difference?
