Round 9: Sturt v Norwood @ Commander Centre Oval, Saturday 19 May 2012
v
Saturday 19 May 2012, Commander Centre Oval
Reserves: 11:25am
League: 2:10pm
Broadcast: ABC1
Sturt had a fast finish before falling just short against the Eagles, while Norwood continued their perfect start to the season with a big win over Westies. Will Sturt bounce back in front of their home crowd, or will Norwood go into the State Game break undefeated?

I'm quite pleased with the team, great to see Juice Newton back in the side after two very impressive performances in the reserves, and I hope their is no further disruption from AFL selections.
I've searched for the Sturt team, haven't found it, but 'd like to think Norwood can win this one by 21 points.

Not sure why this one keeps coming to mind, but can't shake the gut feeling all week here.
Sturt to bring about Norwood's first defeat of 2012 by 9 points.

Would like to wish a young guy I know all the best in his debut for Sturt today. Ziggy Vitkunus.
Have seen him play in his junior years, and more recently watched him 'fly high' in his senior career at local club level.
Congratulations for the 'call up' and good luck

Re: Round 9: Sturt v Norwood @ Commander Centre Oval, Saturday 19 May 2012
The game opened in frantic style with no player able to win an easy possession, scores were locked up most of the quarter and the scoreline of Norwood 2-4, Sturt 1-3 was an accurate reflection of the play.
Both midfields were working hard and finding no space. Finally Norwood broke away mid-2nd term and took a commanding 29 point lead into the half time break. From that time on, it was a matter of what the scores would be at the final siren.
David Rodan was fantastic for Norwood today. Matty Primus, he may not fit into your style of play but her certainly fits into ours .. like a glove. I wouldn't mind seeing him running around in the red & blue for the rest of the season.
Flipper was very good early creating opportunities and kicking 2 long goals in the 2nd quarter to set Norwood up for the rest of the day. Others to do well for Norwood were Batsanis, Brown, Zorzi, Terlich and Juice Newton who took the mark of the day mid-final term and kicked 3 very good goals.
For Sturt, I thought their best were probably Sheedy, Craig Evans, Tambling found a lot of ball, as did most of their midfield, and I was especially impressed by number 16, Fraser Evans who completely blanketed Brady Dawes, he looks a very good player to me.
The game was marred by some very poor kicking for goal, not really good enough in today's conditions, and as usual, the team who won the ruck lost the game. Just thought I'd throw that in

Re: Round 9: Sturt v Norwood @ Commander Centre Oval, Saturday 19 May 2012
I don't follow either side - was watching on TV just to see Ziggy make his debut.
I did enjoy watching - having not watched a sanfl game for quite some time.
I thought while the game was still in the 'clinches' in the second quarter that Sturt had some very undisciplined acts which enabled Norwood to get the upper hand and in the end run away with it.
Was good seeing a coach relaxed and having a good laugh in Bassett..lol.
I suppose if you are that far in front nearing the end then why not.

Re: Round 9: Sturt v Norwood @ Commander Centre Oval, Saturday 19 May 2012
I'm pretty sure he played all his juniors at Mt Compass BP.
In the last few years has played A grade.
Can take a great mark over head - especially if he can get a 'run at it' - I often thought he was Burton like - he was also meant to win me $500 on almost footy legends .... Thing is I never had the camera out at the right times...lol
But no in all seriousness he's a good lad and can play. I thought he took a bit to settle in early on today - but looked better in the last quarter and got 'more into it'.
I hope they continue to play him and he gets right into it.

A question was asked on the Norwood forum about the welfare of a Sturt lad who tried to smother a kick from Grigg, copped the ball flush in the head and was out cold before he hit the ground.
Can anyone supply any information?

Watched the ABC TV replay the other night and they said the lad was taken to hospital for observation but hadn't heard anything more other than that.

John Greenslade was concussed in the incident but has not suffered long lasting effects from it, fortunately.
