SANFLW
I attended West Adelaide's season launch for female football last night.
Lots of excitement around for the new season.
West Adelaide is committed to making SAWFL a success and we'll be backing it 100%.
Obviously some don't share that view, so what do people think?

Yes, they are.
Peter Walsh and John Nankivell will be commentating the 3 games this opening round...

I'd like that along with Centrals to have an eight team comp. There's clearly enough interest in it and the Western and Northern suburbs need teams.mickyj wrote:My understanding the Eagles are joining in 2019
I'd love to see the SANFL structure the women's comp from next year to begin after the Under 16s and run through until season's end. Like the old League/Reserves/19s/17s all running concurrently all year, you could have a combination of League/Reserves at one venue, then Under 18s/16s then Under 18s/Women at the other. Or change it up and have League/Under 18s or League/Women's or whatever.
Footy doesn't have a place in summer and it's absolutely brutal on the ladies to basically begin their pre-season in November and have games in February/March - over the five hottest months in the year.

Yeah there's no question there's heaps of interest in women's footy. I think the SANFL will need to play a fine line between not expanding too quickly and not missing their opportunity in those western and northern suburbs.
The SANFL Women's competition has been a resounding success so far and the standard can be very good. Obviously conditions and depth of teams sometimes conspire against the games but as time goes on, the standard and interest will grow.

Re: SANFLW
You really think the standard is good? Comparing to what ?
The standard is about u/15 level & granted it will improve in leaps & bounds just like it has in cricket but too many are frightened to say the truth

I watched the West v Sturt game last Saturday.
I thought the standard last year was low, but the first game this year was a much higher standard.

Why does anything need to be compared to anything?bayman wrote:You really think the standard is good? Comparing to what ?

It is what it is and I think most games are very good to watch. The South v Glenelg one on the weekend was a bruising encounter - sure the kicking skills aren't as good as the men but they go at the contest hard.
Each to their own mate.

Re: SANFLW
I never said they didn’t go in hard, I agree they do, what irritates me is the accolades they get regarding the standard, the standard is as I said about u/15’s & if the media was honest & said it then there would be no irritation, I’ll add within 3-4 years just like the cricket it’ll be of a reasonable standard but it isn’t right now
