West Adelaide has regained excitement machine Izak Rankine for its contest against Adelaide on Saturday.
Awarded an All-Australian jumper for his campaign at the AFL U18 National Championships, Rankine has been named to start in the forward pocket.
The speedy teenager has been joined in the 23-man squad by key defender Jake Wilson and Oliver Johnson, listed on the extended interchange bench.
Wilson, recruited from Werribee, has been named at full back after not playing since injuring his knee in Round 3.
Former Geelong rookie Zac Bates couldn’t be considered due to a knee injury.

I think West will win this by less then goal. Adelaide haven't really impressed much and West could sneak home at Richmond.

That's gutless and pathetic from the Adelaide Football Club.

Is Mason Middleton the best contested mark in tbe SANFL?
Another 7 contested marks today and I have strong evidence that might back up this statement.

I'd take Scott over Middleton, but Mason is a very good mark, yes.

I think Mason is well in front.
Just clunks marks in packs against 2 or 3 constantly.
Either 7 or 9 yesterday is amazing.
A very experienced football person said he was the best contested mark he'd EVER seen!

For what it is worth, I've seen a reasonable amount of both players over the time and while Middleton is certainly excellent, Scott shades him for mine. Was watching him yesterday and thought how much his aerial work was complemented by such quick reaction time when he came down after taking the mark.
Both great in their own right, though.

A highly respected football person, who has played and coached extensively at AFL level, stated that Middleton was the best pack mark he'd seen at either SANFL or AFL level.
Surprised me, but anyone watching him yesterday and in recent weeks would be inclined to agree with at least the SANFL bit.
All opinion, though.
CK, have you seen Mason this year, as he's gone to a different level.

I think Middleton is definitely the better one-on-one, but Scott certainly takes the 'flashier' marks.
Contested Marks - 2017
Middleton - 46 (avg 3.8 in 12 matches)
Scott - 25 (avg 1.9 in 13 matches)

Do you know if anyone has a higher average than Mason this year?

would that be because someone higher up realized that it was petty to say the least & are trying to limit the damage so to speak ?

Seems clear that the complaint did not come from anyone with authority in the Adelaide FC.
That's good to hear, so time to move on.
